Has the bottom fallen out of the used nappy market?

boom boom

I'm trying to sell some outgrown and surplus nappies on the used nappies site and they just aren't shifting . I've sold loads in the past and never had any problems, but even the size 1s which are pristine haven't had any interest. I don't think my prices are too high given the condition of the nappies....

Has anyone else had this?

well if you can envisage them on little babies in Malawi where many many people have no clothing, or one set to last years then I'm happy to pay postage

I'm really shocked though, perhaps people have just had to give up their addictions to trying new?

LackaDAISYcal · 09/07/2009 18:29

cargirl, I'll email you as I have some other bits and pieces for you

vacaloca, ittis are in demand on here, have you tried the classifieds?

what size ittis?

LackaDaisy... lots of the powersellers on ebay are very concerned about the significant drop in sales recently - hoping is due to the sunshine!! There is a powerseller forum

What size itti's, vacaloca? ahem

vacaloca · 10/07/2009 12:59

oh, size 1 (the littlest) in gorgeous orange and hardly worn - didn't get on with them unfortunately.

Dophus · 10/07/2009 13:06

I'll have some ... Where do I look?
specially for newborns - The ones I have are the older size and no plans to buy new for DC3.

erin99 · 10/07/2009 13:45

oh no, I was hoping to flog my size 1s to fund some new itti bittis. Maybe everyone else is trying to do the same...

Coppola maybe you need to start some threads saying how great fluffles are

LackaDAISYcal · 10/07/2009 16:13

dophus I have an ad in the classified section , lots of size 1 fluffy tots bots for sale and some brand new wraps.

rusmum · 10/07/2009 19:43

i agrer i haveoads for sale and nothing!!

fancy trying flufles

LackaDAISYcal · 10/07/2009 19:50

size 1s are usually easy to sell as people like to try different nappies second hand before shelling out for a complete set.....and size 1s are usually in good condition as they are used for less time than size 2 nappies.

Dophus, I've replied to you on my ad thread

Women's Environmental Network will also take used nappies. I think they lend them to parents who want to try before they buy.

IlanaK · 10/07/2009 20:03

I just freecycled 20 size 1 tots bots as I could not sell them. I have a massive pile of size 2's that I will probably do the same with.

claireybee · 10/07/2009 20:06

It's cloth in general IME, I've spoken to quite a few people lately who were onsidering cloth but then decide not to (It's not me putting them off honest!).

Two people I've spoken to on seperate occasions have said stuff like they have a lot going on, a lot on their mind etc at the moment and so don't have the time/energy/ inclination to look into it properly or to make a decision. I guess maybe in some ways it is easier to just shove a pack of pampers in your trolley every week...

plimple · 10/07/2009 20:07

So, where are you lot selling your size 1s then? I've not looked on ebay yet, but I'm sniffing some potentially cheapish ones on here. If I'm right where are you selling them?
I've got all my size 2 ones and wraps, but gave my new born and size 1 ones to my sister who seems to have lost them. New baby due end September. grrr.

wiggletastic · 10/07/2009 20:26

I listed my size 1 totsbots flexitots on clothnappytree yesterday and have sold four plus one wrap already. Maybe this is a fluke.

I still have 10 nappies and 3 wraps left and no further interest so far....

Now that DD is bigger I have bought quite a variety of different types of shaped and AIO nappies, including some second-hand from here and from clothnappytree.

I really don't understand why more people don't use cloth.

rusmum · 10/07/2009 20:43

IlanaK AGH gutting but at lwast they will get a good home- dont live near me do you__LOL

vacaloca · 10/07/2009 20:59

I'll revive the classified I had here. It has some size 1, including the itti.

thebluefoxategreensocks · 10/07/2009 22:16

Yep, I think everyone is going over to fancy furry nappies, and forgetting the best ones! Every time I try out the new fangled nappies, I realise how much I appreciate good ole fitted nappies! My 3mo son is nearly always in size 1 cotton Tots Bots (would be all the time, but I've not got quite enough of them for exclusive use, so have various other fitteds to fill in the gaps) and my 2yo son wears nearly always Bamboozles, with Cotton Tots to fill in the gaps for not having quite enough Bamboozles. But I just love the reliability of fitted nappies and don't think I'll ever leave them behind! So I think that's the main problem, as I see people spending loads of money on speciality nappies (WN, UD, HL, Ittis, BB etc), but think plain shaped nappies are boring. Have to admit that I've got expensive night nappies (HL Bedbugs) but was essential to find a nappy that worked for nights.

ilovemydogandmrobama · 10/07/2009 22:23

Furry nappies? Good time to sell my BBH minkies, do you think?

Octothechildherder · 11/07/2009 10:45

I agree with Rachel - lots of people buying fancy nappies atm - need to remember the workhorses of the nappy market like shaped bamboo (lollipop and bamboozles) and cotton nappies, terry squares, motherease, fuzzis etc - all the long standing, high quality nappies that everyone relies on!

I do love the new nappies too though and have bought one UD to see what soy was like. It is important to support the WAHM makers - lots of the new concepts come from them.

vacaloca · 11/07/2009 11:25

Okay, got new ad in the classifieds. Thanks for making me get my arse in gear about this.

LackaDAISYcal · 11/07/2009 13:43

yay, I sold some tots on usednappies.....maybe all is not lost!

JennyPenny22 · 11/07/2009 14:02

I have been selling all my size 1s. I am having trouble, but they are going - jus very slowly! I stilll send parcels out every week though so not too bad. I have loads of size 1 and 2 nappies to go though and I think the size 2s are even harder to sell unless they are "posh" nappies.

For who mentioned wanting small ME wraps, I have some "as new" that I could sell.
