DS has been invited to a joint birthday party, he is very friendly with one of the boys as they are classmates but the other he hardly knows as he is in a different class. What's the 'done' thing in situations like this? Do I just buy for the lad he's friendly with or should I buy for both?

I always buy for both in this situation, but that is because i am too much of a wimp to make a stand!
I would spend my normal amount in the friend (About £10), and about £5 on the one he is less friendly with.

DS1 is having a joint party with one of his best friends who is in a different class. Both his mum and I have decided that people only need buy a present for those boys who actually invited them. So for example, DS1 has 5 invited and so does the other boy, so only those 5 that DS1 invited will buy DS1 a present. I will buy the other boy a present as they are good friends. Not that DS1 would be upset if he got presents from the other
