DS (2yo) has always called various cartoon type creatures - dinosaurs on shoes, in books, and applique sharks on t shirts etc 'monsters' and makes a little roaring noise when he sees them.

This morning I was larking about in the bedroom, ds was sat on the bed, and as I opened the wardrobe I said 'Oh look, a monster's hiding in here, and pulled out the detachable furry collar of a cardigan from a shelf. He started crying covered his eyes and seemed really upset. I am distraught to think I've scared him, and worried about him having nightmares.

In retrospect, typing this, it sounds a silly thing to have done. But he's always loved mildly 'pseudo scary' games before and never shown any signs of being bothered.

Am I worrying too much? If not, how can I reassure him?

Was this your bedroom or his? Obviously better if it was yours!! Time will only tell if he now becomes scared but the fact that he got so upset may be cos he worries about monsters hiding from him. DD2 (also 2) says she gets "scary" about monsters in her bedroom and she covers her head with her duvet to hide. I just reassure her they don't exist and mummy and daddy make sure there aren't any in the house when we go to bed. She also likes to pretend to be dinosaurs/monsters/tigers etc.

SHow him how the collar attaches onto the cardi, that it's definitely not a monster and mummy was just playing a silly game. He'll be fine.

It was my bedroom. Will try reattaching to cardi, thanks!
