Hello - we went today. Have you been before?

You will see plenty of people with popcorn, hotdogs etc wandering around so we took some little brioche - plain but the kids like them as a treat. They don't feel that they're missing out on cake/sweets.

Carrot sticks/cucumber sticks
baby tomatoes
cheese sticks
bread sticks (with cheese dip or humous or similar)
Plenty of water

Oat cakes (mini ones are nice) to dip in houmous, or bits of torn pitta for doing the same
Squeezy yoghurts - the ones in tubes which don't need a spoon for eating
Boxes of nuts - cashews and pistachios a hit here
Banana chips
Sandwiches
Homemade plain popcorn
Cooked pasta with some pesto, cherry tomatoes, olives and pine nuts thrown in
Strawberries
Blueberries
Grapes
Plain crisps
Hard-boiled eggs

Great idea for the pasta, my ds loves it and the pittas

Innocent have just started doing smoothie style things in squeezie tubes. You could freeze them beforehand. They're a bit pricey but probably cheaper than buying a round of ice-creams at Legoland...

Don't go too mad! Food is fuel to children on days out like this and they are too busy to be bothered with eating. I would say take a good packed lunch which you can sit and eat (you will need to have a rest) and something for the end of the day when you are on your way back. Make sure you have a water bottle on the go all day.

Otherwise don't overload yourself. Any snacks you take need to be eaten on the hoof, you won't be stopping and sitting too often - Legoland is big and there is a lot to do! I think the pasta and houmous is a great idea, but would have that at lunch, rather than inbetween times. A banana is ideal for a child running to get to the next ride.

In addition to lunch we buy ours an ice-cream in the afternoon as a treat and leave a cool bag in the car with sarnies and snacks for the end of the day for when they are worn out.

Hope you enjoy it!

i would suggest less snacks, and more of a picnic lunch. that can be carried in backpacks. and lots of water to drink

dontdillydally · 02/06/2009 13:16

yes youre right about picnic - i will do a combination of both I think. Thanks for advice

You could also freeze a couple of bottles of drink so they defrost during the day and remain cold. They also act as cool blocks for the rest of the picnic.
