dd too small to get on toilet?

dd potty trained at easter and is now 95% reliable.
last weekend i got her a training seat and step which she loves. she has since done a few wees on the toilet and today a poo .
problem is she can climb on the step but is still too short to climb onto the toilet seat. have i got the wrong step, (standard plastic one from mothercare). today she tried to climb her feet onto the toilet and turn round and i had to catch her as the training seat slipped.
she is 22 months but only 81cm tall.
also as she tries to get off the seat back onto the step she catches her bits on the seat front and says it hurts.

maybe you could keep her on the potty for a bit longer, especially if she's hurt herself trying to get off, you def don't want her to become afraid of the toliet.

Or take measurements of the step and see if you can find one a little bit bigger so its easier for her to get on and off.

Or if she really really loves the training seat and you don't want to upset her, just make sure you help her on and off, if you give her the option of a potty then at least she has a choice of what she wants to use.

thanks cookie, thats what i have been doing, saying potty or toilet, mostly she says potty but if we go to the toilet she wants to and she has used it 4 times today so is keen. will look for a higher step i think. just wondered if anyone else had the same problem.

"but only 81cm tall" Bugger off woman with your stealth boasting of tall child. My 3 year old is not yet hitting 85cm .

She may well be too small. My DS2 happily uses some loos but not others. He can get on and off our downstairs one fine by himself but we need to help him virtually everywhere else.

Ikea has a bigger step. It's quite big and chunky but could help her feel secure.

This was suggested to me on a thread a few weeks ago. In the end I didn't go for it as I discovered that if I just let DS use the normal toilet seat he could get himself on and off no problem. As long as he holds onto the seat he is fine (making sure he washes his hands afterwards of course) We had been having a similair problem that the other seat was tilting as he tried to get on/off.

The JML folding step we have (think we got it in Boots) is nice and high, and DS likes to carry it around. We have the John Lewis toilet seat which is nice and soft with no edges to catch on either

that step looks great MCAB, thanks.
honestly thing one, she is short, every child that starts to walk at playgroup, even 12 month olds, instantly become taller than her, she is in 9-12 month trousers poor thing.
