Oh help, quick dummy question!

DS is 7 months and had a dummy from about 3 weeks, he would want to suckle after feeding (he is bf) but not want to stay latched on and the only thing that would settle him was letting him suck my finger. So we started to use dummies. At nearly 6 months I noticed that he hadn't taken a dummy for a few days, he would play with them and chew them but not want to suck on it. I was quite happy about this, but for some reason didn't take the opportinity to throw all the dummies we had away(!) So he was playing with one yesterday and got the teat into his mouth and started sucking on it, rather than just chewing. Then when he became very unsettled later I gave him one reluctantly and it seemed to help him get to sleep.

My question, should I stop this now and get rid of them all, or should I let him have them? He still doesn't like comfort sucking at the breast and doesn't seem to like sucking his thumb or fingers, though he does do that occasionally.

Well, dd2 still has hers to comfort to sleep and she's 2.9...

it's totally up to you cherrychoc!

mine have both had dummies and I don't have a problem with them.
that said if they were happy without them I wouldn't have used them iyswim? so, if you can get by without one then do, because then you avoid having to get rid of it at a later date

Stop worrying. DD had a dummy for a couple of months, then ditched it spontaneously. DS picks one up about once a month, plays with it a bit and then chucks it! It's probably just novelty value.

He may be teething and acting unusually because of that! Your DS not mine, mine is DEFINITELY teething.

This is going to sound really awful. DS had a dummy until he was four years old. I know it is embarassing and of course he didnt have it in public. From the age of 3 to 4 he only had it at night. One thing I would say though. Looking back the sooner you can get rid of it the better, no matter how clean you may keep it they are always thrown on the floor etc. right germ collectors and also not good for the growth of the teeth (although i know they are only milk teeth) my sons stuck out a bit and i do blame it on the dummy. I would do things different if had the time again. Dont worry DS is only 7 months old, still a baby.
