DD will only poo in the bath... shall I just go with it for a while?

Now DD is a handful - as stubborn as they come. 2.8 months and she decided 2 weeks ago not to wear nappies any more (she has ignored all my previous attempts). She won't use a potty and has gone straight onto the loo, and has at same time gone completely dry at night. The only problem is that she refuses to wear nappies any more and at same time refuses to do poos on the loo. We have had two episodes where she has held in her poo for 4 days (despite being 'flushed through' with prunes and apple juice etc), and then doen a poo in the bath. This Saturday she asked for a bath at 10.00 in the morning so I put two and two together, put her in a big bowl of warm water - instant poo. Same again yesterday. She is totally comfortable doing a poo when her bum is in the water.

My gut instinct is to not sweat it and just go with the flow (so to speak) because I don't want her to develop a poo phobia. But I also don't particlarly want to spend the next 3 months fishing poo out of the water..... has anyone else experienced this??

I agree you should just go with it. My dd was toilet trained at similar age(now 3.3).

Dd, like your dd was fine weeing, but was holding in the poo for a week at a time, which was causing her to become very constipated and therefore it was really painful for her when she finally did go. (quite often it was a warm bath that finally helped). It turned into a nightmare, she was on lactulose for 4 months and would be writhing with stomach pains for days at a time.

Thankfully she's fine now but would avoid doing anything that might result in your dd reacting in a similar way. Hopefully once she realises it doesn't hurt to poo, and if you give gentle encouragement to use the toilet, as opposed to telling her not to do it in bath, she'll just decide to switch herself?

(Using kinder surprise eggs as bribes rewards is what worked with my dd in the end!)

DD did this for a while pre-toilet training. Most annoying when DS is sharing a bath

Wise MNers suggested looking out for it starting to happen and plonking her straight on the loo to finish - with lots of praise, etc.

Since we hadn't got to quite the point of showdown you have, I am not sure it would work for you, but might be worth a try?

FWIW we now seem to be at the opposite extreme - DD does a little bit of poo almost every time she goes to the toilet

Thanks for input, I will carry on 'fishing' for the moment
