we use Terry nappies (the squares you fold) and I was wondering if other people took thier washable nappies abroad, or whether they gave in and bought disposables? I don't like disposable ones though, but I'm wondering how easy you found it??????

We're going to Florida, staying in a villa, so we will have washing facilites in our villa. It will mean keeping the wet/dirty ones in nappy sacks during our journey there and back, but I can get into the swing of things when I get there. The bucket we have is quite a small one - the one from mothercare, so it will fit into our handluggage.

What are your opinions/experience????

I think you're bonkers. Carrying poo around in your hand luggage?!

RedOnHerHead · 18/05/2009 17:17

no! the poo will be flushed! the nappies will be in nappy sacks until we get there - the bucket will be clean in the hand luggage

I've taken my nappies everywhere, and have never actually bought a disposable - DS will be 3 on Wednesday.

Rather than a bucket, just get a couple of the bigger wetbags, and then you can chuck them straight in the machine. No problem at all

I love stinki minki wetbags (scroll down). Tots Bots wetbags are great too.

These are what I was thinking of.
You lob the wet/dirty nappies in, and then just unzip/undo and lob in the machine - no need to unpack as long as you take inserts out of the nappies before you put them in (if that type)

fantastic - thanks both - I actually have a cheap shower curtain left from my homebirth and have found instructions to make one from Little-Birdie-Secrets, but I think I will adapt it and try to make one with a drawstring rather than a zip - much better than carrying a bucket. Would 2 be better than 1 - for when its in the wash? I think I'll make 2 anyway.

At the moment I use nappy soak and soak the terries in water in the bucket - do you use a nappy sanitiser in with your wash instead?

I think I have five

swampster · 19/05/2009 20:52

Oh, no, seven! But two are used as swim bags for DS1 and DS2 and one is a raggy little Little Lamb one that I only use in an emergency...

CMOTdibbler · 19/05/2009 22:58

I have 5 still - v useful for wet clothes and swimming stuff still.

I have never soaked, and use a bit of Napisan in the wash. I know it's not terribly green, but it makes everything nice and fresh

RedOnHerHead · 21/05/2009 10:39

I use PHP's nappy soak its boidegradable and that can be used as a wash powder.

I guess I have some sewing to do then!

Thanks all for the advice - will ditch the bucket and try out these bags instead!

start sitting child on potty now, you may find you can cut down on number of nappies needed by November?
