Any tips on cutting hair??

Dd is 2 and has never had her hair cut (don't know if I should be ashamed of this or not!). She has gorgeous blond curly hair but its way out of control now. She won't let me put it in bunches, only clips to keep it off her face but she is getting to point where she needs loads to keep it under control! Hmmm... think I should be ashamed after thinking about it... So, do I cut it myself or take her to hairdresser. I think she would refuse to have it cut at a hairdresser but if anyone can recommend a good one for children in Sheffield I would appreciate it!! Alternatively, whats the best way to cut a girls hair myself??

if it's really curly you can prob get away with doing it yourself. (she says as self-styled hairdresser of messy-haired boys)

i would just wait til she is in the bath, wash her hair, then cut as quickly as you can around the back. that's what I do with my 2 (they have longish hair)

you do need really sharp scissors though. last time I did ds2's fringe i could only find a crappy pair and it went a bit wrong. oops.

DD1 went to hairdressers once and got her ears combed and hated it and it cost a fortune. DD2 has never been (5yo now). I Always cut theirs.
So buy proper scissors from Boots or somewhere. Section hair off, sit her in front of a mirror and 'play' hairdressers. I only have one style - the bob - how could that possibly go wrong? Comb it, get it between your finger, cut. Get it all level, then do the same with the top section. HAve confidence, you know what to do after all you've watched them in the mirror often enough!
Spend next two days just tidying it up as you see the bits you will inevitably have missed. Enjoy!

i cut my two daughters hair.

if you cut it yourself give her something to hold that will interest her so she will sit still.

my two would never sit still long enough for a hairdresser!

I cut my dd's hair.

She's had a fringe trim by the hairdresser once (at 18mths - she's 3.2yo now) which took 2 mins and cost nothing (I was a regular) but I no longer live in that area! Damnit!

I've been fringe trimming/trimming her hair for ages now! She loves it & sits still, I have a decent pair of scissors and do it wet or dry and comb and cut straight all the way around.

Go for it, if you do mess it up there's always the hairdressers

I do DD's in the bath (good for collecting up bits). She has never been to a hairdresser and people compliment her on her haircuts (always a short bob becuase she hates things in her hair.)

I cut DS's hair. My tips would be - do it quickly, aim for speed rather than perfection! (on a related point don't try any thing complicated!), give her a little mirror so she can watch, if you can avoid cutting near her ears...

Good luck

Ever heard of a HAIRDRESSER! Quite simple really. You are making a fuss of the situation so don't you think the child will.

Do it yourself and just bear in mind that the difference between a bad haircut and a good haircut is roughly two weeks
I normally give DS1's fringe a quick swipe in the bath.
