anyone fancy joining one as im on day 6 and i am going white haired and am even saying in my sleep 'do you want a poo poo' - i even said to my colleague yesterday i was going for a wee wee . He has been great at nursery for 2 days with no accidents (they prompt him not other way) but he has gone from 2 poos a day to well he hasnt been since yesterday and he baked that one for 2 days. I need some tips for encouraging a browny.... come share your tales - the highs and the lows... oh and when does it get easier?

He sounds like he is doing really well in 6 days - have you used chocolate buttons as bribery in reward for poo poos and general dancing around the house praise for each one?

Took about 4-6 weeks until Toby told us he needed to do stuff and never needed to be prompted. But 4 months later he has had a couple of accidents at nursery this week whilst playing outside!?

Nappyzoneisabeetrootrunner · 14/05/2009 20:28

So at some point i wont have to prompt as much... i thik if i didnt prompt he would never tell me and have numerous accidents. He has managed one poo on the loo (Monday) the day after he managed one in his pants (sunday)- we sat with a book then i left him with it in private and out it popped - i did reward with buttons and over excitedness. Yesterday he produced after holding it in a few days - he actually came in saying choo choo so i responded with choo choo thomas - he was actually saying poo poo which i quickly realised and checked his pants to see it emerging - i ran him to the loo and it came out (sorry tmi) and went inthe loo and he didnt seem bothered by it. He has been edgey tongiht as if he needs one but he hasnt gone depsite sitting on the loo a good 10 mins!, he has always been quite loose but since this melarky he has been alot firmer but i expect thats from holding it longer. I never knew poo was such an indepth and eciting subject

I asked him tonight again if he needed one and he proper shouted no at me as if to say stop bloody asking me!!! Two mins later he walks up to me saying all wet adn had weed his pants.
So no accidents at nursery and accidents/ near misses with me with attitude.

It looks firmer in the toilet than it is. In the beginning DS took a good half an hour to work out a poo, but now he's very businesslike. And he now tells us when he needs to poo (would previously just hold it in all day long).

I'm in the same position. Ds 2.11 years old has been in pants since Monday. Taking him to the loo every half an hour or so. Doing well. Couple of wee accidents at nursery and a couple at home. 2 poos in his nappy and last night I caught him just in time and sat him on the loo, which he wasn't too happy about at first but did do one in the end. What I want to know is when he will start to go himself? And what if we want to go out for a few hours? I can't keep prompting him. Should I put him in pull-ups while we're out until he says he wants to go??

Nappyzoneisabeetrootrunner · 15/05/2009 15:48

shish i have got a guage that ds will go about 2 and a haldf hr intervals and as long as 4 so we gerenally say shall we have one before we go out..... i was talking to our health visitor at work today and she just emphasised to keep them watered up as if they hold it in and it gets to hard it could hurt on exit and may put them off pooing more so which obv makes sense. I am reckoning afetr 3 weeks of promtping hopefully he will start to prompt me but then i cant remember - it seemed so much mroe easier and straight fwd with my dd but then it was 4 yrs ago si maybe i have forgot the trauma!

They say that girls are easier to toilet train than boys - don't know why. And I've just had another boy 7 weeks ago!!

Nappyzoneisabeetrootrunner · 15/05/2009 19:24

ooooooo i bet your house is fun then !! . Ds had a poo today - at nursery ....in his pants! Im off with him now till Wednesday and have just spent a small fortune on loo seats and stools and a token pooing book!

shish · 16/05/2009 21:16

Just managed to catch ds again before a poo today - really not very keen to do it on the toilet at first. Climbed down and starting pooing standing. Just managed to get him back on the toilet om time!! Managed a decent one. Although we had a massive wee accident before that. I'm wondering how long it will take before he starts telling me he needs to go??

Oh - and fun is not quite the word I would use to describe our house at the moment . It's complete mayhem!!!

Nappyzoneisabeetrootrunner · 16/05/2009 22:15

Excellent - i just caught ds too also - he has had an accident free day but i was watching him like a hawk for signs of poo - just after tea he shouted to get down from table and looked a bit concentrated so i asked and he said yes - is it coming out? yes - i lifted him by underarms and flew him to the loo - he had a look of great concentration so i left him to it (teeny tiny skid in undies were it started) (sorry tmi) anyway he managed and looked down the loo at it transfixed for a bit pointing so we said goodbye nd that was that . Tomorrow is another day....

I am trying to not asking ds as much in the hope he will tell me but he leaves it that long i have to ask in the end so we can go out confident he wont piddle in a shop!

OP posts:
shish · 17/05/2009 09:41

If I ask ds he just says no every time. I have to tell him it's time to go. Is that how you started. How long before he would say yes??

Nappyzoneisabeetrootrunner · 17/05/2009 12:26

he still says no mostly but then i think its only 9 so its early days - then when its been a while i say lets go before we go out/ lunch etc... thats said this am he got up and i said did he need one and he said yes - his nappy has been bone dry the last 2 mornings and he has done monster first morning wees . I am going to lay of him this afty and try and let him take the lead a bit more (which is tricky as i cant help myself asking!!). I am on poo watch this afty though - we need to go to tesco

Mine has had soaking wet nappies in the morning - Almost as if he is holding it in all day and letting go in his sleep. No poo today so lets see what happens tomorrow.

Nappyzoneisabeetrootrunner · 17/05/2009 21:13

Today we have had a wee wee accident which he immediatly realised he ha done and had a little upset cry as it had already started whilst he was engrossed in making train tracks so i put on the loo and he let the rest go - whilst on i asked if needed a poo and he said yes and went for it though it took an age and he defo gets stage fright if i hover over him (who could blame him!). Two hrs later he came steaming through the klitchen shouting toilet and perfomred a little wee. Hoping the penny will start to drop this week. Mine was defo a reluctant pooer in the first week shish so hope you turn a corner there too.

We had a bone dry nappy this morning followed by a big wee on the toilet . Looked like he was going for a poo in his pants just now before dh was gonna take him to nursery so I rushed him to the toilet but he decided there was no poo coming. He's a little lass reluctant to go to the toilet now whereas a week ago he refused point blank to sit on the tiolet at home - only at nursery. So I feel like we're taking small steps in the right direction - very small steps!

puffylovett · 18/05/2009 08:59

Sorry if this is too much info - but I found the best way to encourage my LO to poo on the loo was to get all excited when I was doing a poo on the loo, then he would come flying in and asking to see mummys poo in the toilet Plus we have lots of laughs about how stinky smelly poo is. oh, and we also did stickers at first to get him excited about going to the toilet - he got an extra sticker when he started telling me he needed a wee.

it worked though, he was pooing in the loo a few days after we started. 3 weeks in and he's telling me whenever he needs a wee and a poo (so far) and the last 2 mornings he's up at 6 dry, wanting a big wee on the loo.

Nappyzoneisabeetrootrunner · 18/05/2009 12:43

We too have had a poo on the loo today and it was pre spoken of by him after he pumped as was a later wee thugh there was a slight damp patch so he must have realised it a bit late btu still seems our little men ar getting there!

shish · 18/05/2009 13:07

I hope my ds starts saying he needs to go soon rather than me having to keep putting him on the toilet...

Nappyzoneisabeetrootrunner · 18/05/2009 13:20

puffylovett you have given me hope that i will soon be stopping uttering them words!

OP posts:
puffylovett · 18/05/2009 15:40

well after all that today he pooed in his pants at the library oops . my fault, not his !! i got engrossed in teen fiction

oh and I'm stll forever uttering the words 'do you want a wee' but now they just seem part of my normal vocabulary lol !!

the accidents aren't so scary once you've had a couple, either !

shish · 18/05/2009 15:52

I guess there's bound to be some accidents while they fine tune the art. But you've come so far and shown be that my ds will get there eventually..

Going to collect hime from nursery soon so will have to see how he has got on there and see what the evening has to bring

shish · 20/05/2009 18:48

nappyzone - how are you getting on?? We were doing ok, although ds still isn't asking to go - and then there were 2 accidents at nursery today

Nappyzoneisabeetrootrunner · 20/05/2009 20:01

Well he has started to ask to go but before we go out i still prompt a go.... he comes runnign in urgent shouting toilet in an unclear toddler way ! He hasnt had a poo for 2 days despite getting over that at the weekend and going alot so not sure if holding it in or just doesnt need to go . Today he was back at nursery and had to have a change of pants but they said it wasnt an accident it was because his tail wasnt pushed down and shot out over em!

He is also appearign dry on a morning but i am finding he is waking earlier so dont kow if the feeling of needing a pee is waking him or if its just a season thing but a 6am start today and im shattered!

Nappyzoneisabeetrootrunner · 20/05/2009 20:03

I am expecting accidents at nursers shish because they have more kids and exciting stuff going on to wory about. I suppose after 2-3yrs of going intheir pants a moment of memory loss is bound to lead to an accident. I think the boys are gettign there and he will ask soon - i mean my dh doesnt get prompted by his mum anymore (heis 34! but i wouldnt put it past mil!!!)

shish · 21/05/2009 08:32

Thank you nappyzone. He's just gone to nursery. He came running up to me saying 'I've got tummy ache' at which point I said 'do you need to go to the tiolet'. He shouted yes and went running to the toilet and did a big wee. Don't know if that means he might start telling me soon - Let's hope so. he definately doesn't want to wear nappies anymore. I have to convince him at bedtime.

Momma23 · 21/05/2009 09:16
