My DS2 as just had his secind birthday and we were similarly stumped. A few of his presents included:
his own umbrella to save fights over the big brother's one;
the whale rocker that ELC sell - it has a seat in the middle so he can "see saw" by himself but also seats at either end so they can play together
a pirate door plaque for his bedroom;
anything car/plane/train related;
some new books

Good luck - I have found that it's the novelty value of DS2's presents that have appealed to both boys ! DS1 is nearly 4.

paddling pool?
wendy house?
books
new bike/trike/scooter
rocking horse

ohdearwhatamess · 13/05/2009 20:46

Cars - you can never have too many.

Books - new and age specific (rather than one he'll grow into and might seem more targetted at older brother).

Duvet cover, or something else for his bedroom

a paddling pool isn't a bad idea.

i think I stand in the way of a lot of ideas on grounds of being wasteful or unevironmentally conscious (more plastic!).

I know it's not my birthday, but i really can't stand all the crap.

I want to buy him new shoes. That's boring isn't it.

You can never go wrong with more bath toys! I have two daughters and have the same problem. They actually share most stuff anyway, but dd2 never seems to get a 'big' present all of her own. She always seems to get it joint with big sister for Christmas. I must sort this out! So, maybe you should get him something that takes loads of unwrapping......a kitchen, a sandpit, a tricycle......your older boy will be jut as excited about him unwrapping it too.

popsypie · 13/05/2009 20:53

Oh and dressing ups too. Always a winner!

nevergoogledragonbutter · 13/05/2009 20:55

we have a kitchen, a sandpit and a trike (all second hand bargains)

also, we're moving in a couple of months. a big 500-mile move. doesn't make sense to get anything really big.

again, the paddling pool can be inflatable, so that's good.
i need more than one gift though.

we had this issue with ds2
is there something he is into but ds1 wasn;t?
tbh we tend to get things they both play with together

popsypie · 13/05/2009 21:07

What about an exciting day out rather than a present? You could build up the excitement for him, have a great day then let them both choose something from the giftshop.

popsypie · 13/05/2009 21:07

Or you could get a tent for the garden - again easy to store and move with.

SlartyBartFast · 13/05/2009 21:10

pop up tunnel
pram
dolly/teddy

kalo12 · 13/05/2009 21:18

'wow' toys are fab. and british made.
also i bought my ds a twin bunny bag from oskar and ellen. a bit girly but my ds loves it, two bunnies in a bag that you can dress up. its so cute

nevergoogledragonbutter · 13/05/2009 21:32

sorry got a pop up tunnel and tent, and a pram.

arrrgh, Ds1's 4 years of christmases and birthday multiplied by 3 sets of grandparents has left nothing for DS2 to get.

OP posts:
nevergoogledragonbutter · 13/05/2009 21:36

oh, the bunnies are very cute.

OP posts:
nevergoogledragonbutter · 13/05/2009 21:51

it's cool isn't it.
good job we're leaving devon as it doesn't have brakes and it's very hilly here.

A 'little' thing is a fab wooden sailing boat for the bath from Myriad (scroll down for it) - it's a great site with lots of lovely stuff on it.

BiscuitStuffer · 14/05/2009 09:10

That looks impossible to ride!!! Seat too low for pedals etc

ladyr · 14/05/2009 10:08

Love the bike, here's another bike that was a real hit with my DS click here
If you've got digital photos on your pc have a look at these books - my sister did one all about the family for my youngest and he loves it!

nevergoogledragonbutter · 14/05/2009 17:52

ah, the were sold out of the bike.
back to the drawing board.
