Help! 15 m/o D2 is driving me nuts!

He is very loving, cuddly, happy and sweet. But ARGH. He wants to be in, or on, everything - from dishwasher to oven, microwave to stairs, tables to toilets - and I can't get anything done at all.

I have stairgates of course, but not on the kitchen door. Should I put one there? Or would he just stand at it, weeping, like a prisoner? I put his table in the kitchen so he could sit and eat/draw while I cook, but he just tries to climb out and stand on it to get into the microwave.

We also have a playpen, but he just cries when I put him in there.

The house is a shit-hole and I'm losing patience. Also, I don't know how to play with him -- he seems to prefer household objects (ideally sharp, dangerous ones) to any of his toys. Most of our days are spent with him toddling round the house and me following, keeping up a chant of, "No, not in your mouth... Come down from there... Do you want to play with this? Oh, I see you don't... Stay still for a min... Please tell me it's time for your nap."

I feel so guilty but it's becoming very frustrating. He is angelic when we go out but we can't go out every day (can we? Should we?) if I'm ever going to get anything done.

HELP. Any tips??

The title should say DS2, obv.

BuMp... Please help if you can. I know I should be used to this stage after DS1, but I don't remember him being this "hands on", plus he was at nursery 3 days a week.

My DD is 14 months and is exactly the same. It's a bloody nightmare! Thankfully she is at nursery 4 days a week but even there she causes chaos - yesterday climbing on chair and trying to use it to get something high up, fell off, did it again two seconds later.

It is utterly relentless.

The only thing I have found to help is having our open plan living area totally DD proof and we spend the vast majority of the time at weekends out doing stuff. Last weekend we spent 7 hours at the park when the weather was nice, if not we do soft play and swimming or go and see my Mum.
