Zoo smell...

DDs bamboo nappies smell just like a zoo when they're wet, so I guess I need to strip them. I'm not quite sure which method I should be using though as the two causes of nappy stink I know of don't seem to apply...

I don't think it's bacterial as they smell totally fine when dry (and I wash at 60 regularly). But, it doesn't seem to be the classic powder build-up either - it really is a zoo smell rather than an ammonia smell

So, any ideas what should I do to them?

chuck them through a 90 degree wash with some bicarb. worked a treat on mine. I chucked all my nappies in.
I know some say not to wash at 90, but I don't think a one-off will harm them at all, think it's just regularly doing it that can cuase harm

Thanks thisisyesterday - unfortunately bamboo shrinks if washed too hot. I managed to shrink a great little bamboo dress last summer and I really don't want to risk the nappies.

Maybe soaking overnight with bicarb would help? Could I maybe use a bicarb and white vinegar solution to soak in or would that be too hefty?

Well, I've just put them to soak in a solution of bicarb and vinegar. How long should I leave them? Do you reckon I need to do the washing-up liquid thing afterward too?

I know it's dull, but bumping anyway as I could do with some tips...

I'm not a real nappy user yet - baby due in July, but bumping for you. I can sort of see the bicarb/vinegar thing being right but I think mixng them together would neutralise both - one being acid and the other alkaline. Could be wrong though
