DD is 2.5 and trained really well with weeing, immediately in fact. Always needed reminding and a lot of help with pooing on the toilet. She just can't seem to get the timing right - she obviously needs one but denies it until it's too late. I normally take her to the loo and place her on it again and again until she does one. She was getting the hang of it...

However, she has recently been poorly and had a bout of diorreah and hospitalisation. Since then she is just pooing in her pants twice a day. I am now being quite strong and telling her I am cross with her and taking away a toy when she does it. Is this too much? .

We keep having these convos about telling Mummy when she needs a poo and she says she will then 2 mins later does on in her pants. She starts prep in Sept and I just feel she won't crack it at all over summer if she keeps this up. - any words of wisdom? What could be the matter she seems scared of pooing...

My DD is 3 and will not poo on the toilet, only in a nappy. Well we have stopped this now, and she still wont go, and on Saturday she did it in her knickers.
I think it may be a girl thing.....
I know this is not much help, but I am just hoping that it will just click soon and stop being an issue. Fingers crossed.

Hello there, so glad I've found this thread. My DD is 3 and also refuses to poo on the toilet, only in her nappy. Not only that, but only at a specific time, during a specific TV prog, with a specific toy and no talking nor anyone near her. IS this normal? We've tried putting her on the loo but she freaks out, not in a tantrum way but as though she's really scared. So we relent and let her poo in her nappy. It's either that, or her not pooing at all. If she's staying at her grandparents or we have visitors in the house, she can't poo at all - and I'm talking for five days, sometimes. Have you found any other threads that might help with this? Have you any advice - will it just "pass"?!

I don't have any words of wisdom, but mppaw - it def isn't just a girl thing. DS2 who is only 2.4 is doing pretty well with weeing, but zilch success with the poos. He talks a good poo on the potty, but just won't do it. Fortunately he only goes once a day, but never in the loo / potty. DS1 was lots better - took him a week or so to get the poo in potty sorted - but he was 2.9.

Good luck to all!

I can so sympathise with you all on this thread. My DD is the same. It is very common and they could well be scared of pooing so go gently. Do a seach of the archives and you will find loads of others with similar issues. Be careful that they are not holding it as you can then get into a vicious cycle of it being then painful to pass so they hold it in.

I'm in exactly the same situation with dd age 2.5. Wees are fine, some days no accidents but other days one or two. Poos are another thing entirely. It's a song and dance back and forth to the loo with her clutching her bum, then nothing, so back another two minutes later.

IMHO telling her you are cross and removing toys etc is a bit much at 2.5. I know where you are coming from because I am sick to death of cleaning/soaking cotton knickers with poo in them but I don't think any negative talk will help. Just ignore it, change her and say nothing. Focus on the positives, try stickers/star charts treats etc. I found a website with great free potty training charts and dd chooses which one she wants, I print it off. She's allowed to use the masking tape to stick it up and choose her stickers. Still having poos in knickers but I know from dd1 they do get there in the end and it is important to just chill about it.
