Clipping toddlers' toenails!

My two-year told boy has suddenly and inexplicably developed an aversion to having his toenails cut (he still likes having his fingernails cut). We've tried bribing, coaxing and reasoning with him to no avail, and just cutting them anyway doesn't work because he squirms and kicks and howls, and could get hurt. His toenails haven't been cut for a month now and are approaching the stage where we have to do something. Short of having him anaesthetised I can't think what to do! Any suggestions would be much appreciated.

In our house, dh basically has to hold ds down while I do it.
HE haes it, but they curl under.
I am hoping it will improve...
Could you do it while he sleeps?

i use proper nail scissors, not baby scissors. Imo they are too thick at the end. Proper ones are shar[per and therfore get the job done much quicker, therefore, less stress. Not clippers, far too slow positioning.
