Anyone done a PGCE after 40?

I'm 41, should graduate next year. Am thinking about doing a PGCE after this, which would mean I would start teaching aged 43 1/2. Is this too old? Has anyone done it? The way I look at it, I've had my children and am looking to work for the next 20 or so years and want a career, rather than just a job. What do you think?

I was talking to a friend about retraining (I'm 39), but then said I felt I was too old to change career now and she said...
'You've still got 25 years at work if you retire at 65!'

WHich really got me thinking. I constantly see things saying that the most employable age is mid 20s, but since I started working at 22, I'm not even half way through my working life yet! I say go for it and the very best of luck to you

Thanks everyone for your words of encouragement. I think what I'm most concerned about is that if I ever become a teacher, everyone will assume I've been doing it for 20 years already and won't expect me to be a complete novice! Well, that and having to mime sing in assembly
