almost 3yo in a pushchair - am I mad?

my little girl is a total nightmare when I go shopping with her - she runs off, hides under clothing rails etc and basically drives me insane within minutes. I have tried safety reins and she just throws herself on the floor and screams, or leans her full weight against them until my arm aches. She will happily sit in a rear facing pushchair (she is very talkative and likes to chatter to me as we shop) and I'm more than happy to push her round (means I can hang my bags on the handles too) but is this normal? Am I alone in that I cant control my child? My son is an absolute angel, and is only a year and a half older, so I dont think its a lack of discipline. I just feel a bit silly pushing a large toddler round the shops when she could be walking!

My little boy is 3 years 9 months and I am more than happy for him still to be in the pushchair. I have friends with children the same age and they still have them in pushchairs too. It's just easy isn't it. It doesn't matter at all. Do what feels right for you.

is she bored shopping? will she walk elsewhere?

No you're not mad. Shopping trips are the one time when I wish I had a double buggy and could imprison my 4yo as well as the baby!

I have my 3.5yr old in a push chair for the same reason! He's in a double with my baby

Phew! I'm glad its not just me!
I just hate when I get stressed at her, its not her fault, she is just hyper and so full of beans. Oh, and she has the survival instincts of a lemming. She will talk to ANYONE and has NO fear, even of moving traffic.
If hubby is with me and we are on a day out, then I will take the pushchair and just let her walk until she is tired, but she needs someone watching her 100% of the time, blink and she's up the nearest tree or headfirst in a rubbish bin.
I'm just hoping she will grow out of it, or I can see me still pushing her round when she's 5!

Nothing at all wrong with it, but I just don't like keeping DS (two) in the buggy for too long. It just seems so unfair as he's such an active little boy so it makes me feel really uncomfortable.
For that reason, the only shopping I do when he's with me is necessary food shopping. I do most of my clothes shopping in my lunchtimes when at work, and the food shopping, DH and I divide between us so it's not too lengthy an experience for DS (who sits in the trolly). Or I do it online.

Why are people so anxious to get rid of push chairs? I hung on to ours as long as possible - apart from anything else it's somewhere to put the shopping!
