DS - 3.8 regressing, what would you do?

Hi everyone.
We've had potty training cracked for months now until this weekend when DS has had accident after accident after accident, both wees and poos .
He seems to be in perfect health and doesn't appear distressed about anything so there's no obvious reason for this regression. In fact, he shows no real remorse, regret or shame for his actions.
I've tried talking, bribing, threatening and co-ercing and the accidents are still happening.
What would you do now? Saying "oh dear, never mind" doesn't seem appropriate as he has proved he knows better. In fact, that tactic never worked, he just took that as carte blanche to carry on soling himself!
I'm just getting angry with it all now.
How would you deal with it? Is "punishment" ie withdrawal of toys or priveleges suitable for a child of his age? I've warned him that he'll have to go back into nappies full-time if he persists (but I really, really don't want to resort to that and, frankly, reckon he'll just take advantage of the nappies).
He's not dry at night either, but has been waking up soaking wet recently too.
aaaarrgghhhhh!!

Fuss in regressions give ds control. Ignore it when it happens. no fuss. and NO emotion. we had same thing and it was a control thing. He is now 4 1/4 and not even close to being dry at night.
But not dealing with that til come back from hol. had him dry til he went to F* ex who couldn't be bothered getting up if he had an accident.

There will be lapses but don't make a fuss as dc think ahh can wind mummy up - isn't this cool. do it again do it again.

or am i just too synical?
