is it mean to ban McDonald's?

a friend of ours is moving quite a way away and is having a farewell children's party in McD's for her dd. Our dd is invited. The problem is so far we have never let her go to McD's as we are so opposed to it - both the food it sells as well as from a business ethic perspective - and yes, I have read Fast Food Nation! so the question is do we let our dd go to her friend's party or not? the children are in the 3 - 4 age range.

I don't think its mean at all. Altho' a shame to miss the party. Perhaps your dd and friend could meet up for fond farewells without the crappy food. My 2 boys have no idea what McD is, 4.5 and 3, and they do enjoy the occssional home made burger with fat chips (par-boiled big chip shaped potatoes, roasted in the oven, as opposed to deep fried) with some salad, especially if outside in the garden. I have no intention of introducing them to fast food, and think I may well decline any invites that offer it.

aah - didn't realise it was a party thing - should have read the thread! No harm as a one-off I guess.
In general though, still feel McD experience as well as its food is not something I want to expose ds to - it's a vile, rushed environment not conducive to having a proper meal, leave alone the fact that the food is so processed, travelled from afar and not fresh.
Someone mentioned Pizza Express - I'm sure many of its dishes have lots of salt - salami, anchovies etc as pizza toppings, bound too. However, they have proper, freshly made pizzas & salads (albeit some with fat - nothing inherently wrong with that, btw depends why it's there). everyone is sitting down at a proper table with knife & fork, it's therefore a genuine eating out experience - call me old-fashioned but I think that's civilised!

I hate macdonalds but I wouldn't even consider stopping the dds from going to a party there if they were invited and wanted to go.

would anyone seriously turn down an invitation for their children to MacD's? What on earth do you say to the parents? don't you care that they will think you are the most precious parents alive?

Agree with the consensus here. My kids have never been to McD's but I would let them go to a party if invited. Definitely good idea to give healthy food beforehand. My favourite is a banana and some other fruit (maybe kiwi or plum).

You are bound to get ill if you were to eat mcdonalds every day all the time. Mcd's is only open because there is an market for it, if no one went in it wouldn't be open?? What about burger king, KFC, old fish and chips, its all the same.
