When you ground your DC, what are your rules?

DS1 is grounded for 2 nights ATM.
He can read, play guitar, draw, write, and basically amuse himself. But no laptop / tv / or xbox.
Just wondered what you do?
Do you have graduations of grounding for different crimes (as such) or do you have a 'blanket' grounding?

Graduations for us, often just being kept in from clubs, friends etc is more than enough. It would have to be a major thing to be grounded and have a screen ban. We do have screen bans without grounding as well though.

Xbox gets unplugged, depending on what crime, unplugged sometimes for a whole week, might be allowed to park at these times but sometimes no park and no xbox. Depends on crime. A lot of the time it's because he isn't listening to me because he's so engrossed in xbox, hence use of xbox punishment, and it will usually include ban on the tv as well as all this stuff is in his room. He IS allowed to read in bed at these times. (horrible mother emoticon). So, no blanket grounding, no.

Thanks for replies. How old are your DC?
DS1 is 11.9.
We tend to have the blanket grounding, but vary the time depending on the crime IYSWIM, so perhaps a couple of hours for rude backchat, maybe a week if he missed curfew by a long time with no good reason (not that he ever has - just an example).

Hi OP. Mine is 13. So gorgeous and funny.
How are you getting on?

BettySwollux · 05/05/2009 21:53

Hi monty, we're great now thanks. The grounding was only for 2 days for stroppy talk and a lie about how long he was on the goddamn xbox.
He is a really lovely kid most of the time but those near teenage hormones rear their ugly head now and then.
itsjustaphase, itsjustaphase, ad infinitum!!

Hi Betty, lol, they're funny aren't they sometimes lol.

How old is yours? Mine has just acquired a skateboard. Ohmigod. But it gets him away from the goddam XBOX! Why do we buy these things for them though?

Yours sounds like mine. It's constant in our house, 'if you don't answer me now the xbox goes' etc etc but I do act on it, and that's the secret.

Think of all us mums with the xbox son syndrome.

Has yours got a skateboard yet? Another world.
Why are they so cute????

DS1 is 12 in august, he went through the skateboard phase when he was younger, but it wasnt really for him. He plays football, cricket and basketball, so not doing too badly with other interests lol.

We got him xbox for his birthday last year, and he uses it a lot to talk to his best friend who emigrated to Australia in January lucky bugger.
