Non potty trained DD asks to go for a wee on the 'big loo' from time to time but won't poo - what next?

I haven't started potty training yet and DD is 2.4. I think she probably is ready so am thinking about it for the bank holiday weekend.

She will go through phases of asking to go for a wee on the big loo and manages that brilliantly and can clearly feel when she needs to go and can hold it until she gets to the loo. A couple of times she's said she's needed a poo. We've gone to the loo and then she's declared that she's finished and then pooed in her nappy 5 minutes later. Will this just resolve itself when we do potty training or should I wait?

I think it resloves itself
a lot of kids wait until their naptime or nighttime nappy to poo
I think weeing comes first, poo later when potty training

DS was scared to poo in potty/loo to start with, would ask for a nappy. Then he would only do it in a potty, but now happy to go in the loo. I think it's quite common.

ah - so should you tackle nightime nappies another time or just pull them all in one go?

night tiem nappies are a totally different matter
you do that a different time
often about a year or 2 later
you can't train them to be dry at night
they either decide themselves or you notice their nappies are always dry in the morning
my ds was 4 by the time he was dry at night
my nephew was 5

Night-time is completely different issue, lots of children still wearing nappies at night when they have been clean and dry in day for ages.

Good luck with the potty training

Gah! We have the opposite problem, DD will happily poo in the potty but prefers to wee in her nappy

I'm hoping it is just an age thing. We are starting to get her to think that 'nappies are stinky and horrid and for babies' but moving onto the 'pottys/toilets are much better' bit does seem hard.

Good luck with your DD. We're waiting till it's properly warm so she can run round outside most of the day to mitigate any stain causing accidents!

I tried potty training my ds when he turned 2 but it was a disaster,so i waited till he was 2yr6mths & he did much better,he has had one accident & that was on the first day of trying.

I stayed in & put his potty in his playroom,i left him with only the top half of his clothes on & he then knew he could make it to his potty in time.He did wees & poos on it.

Do you have a reward chart? Does you lo have a favourite character that you could buy some stickers of? You could give a sticker of their choice when they manage a wee or poo.

After one week of this his nappy was dry in the mornings so i decided to leave his nappy off & its been 3 weeks now with only one wet night.

He now goes on the toilet for his wees & poos & i remember the advice my Mum gave me 'If its hard work they are not ready'.

Good luck!
