DS (3) is 4 end of August and is starting school full time in Sept

Am just wondering what drinks other kids have for lunch and in what that doesn't leak iyswim..

Are cartons of juice ok for them to have every day?

TBH he doesn't drink juice at home and not sure if I want him to start now...

dd has water, she doesnt like anything else

Haylstones · 30/04/2009 14:35

My dd has water-I used to give her cartons of fruit juice but she didn't like them as she couldn't finish them fast enough togo and play with her friends. With a bottle of water she can put the l id back on and put it in her lunch bag for later.

Water. Not allowed anything else but I wouldn't send anything else anyway.

They drink water or milk at home and sometimes vrey watered down juice.

Sorry to ask such a dim question but what do you put the water in?

Is it a normal mineral water bottle?

Best show DS how to open/close one!!!

Mine have water. Most of their peers have juice or fruity drinks.

FabulousBakerGirl · 30/04/2009 14:38

plastic mineral water bottles are not allowed at the children's school.

I buy the sports bottle type kid's bottles from any of the supermarkets. Just buy one to test for leaks and make sure they can open and close it okay.

unhealthy blackcurrant squash because I'm such a bad mother.

simpson · 30/04/2009 14:40

Yes have been talking to some of the mums at school gates and they are going to give fruity/sugary drinks which I don't really want to do.

But its hard if he is the only one without iyswim...

Fresh orgnic apple or orange juice in little cartons from Sainsburys with a straw or Ribena in similar cartons available most everywhere.

Bluestocking · 30/04/2009 14:42

Water. He only gets water or milk at home. One of his best friend's dads is a dentist and he has put the fear of god into me about the effect of sugary drinks, including watered-down juice, on children's teeth. I have five fillings and I don't want him to have any!

Fennel · 30/04/2009 14:43

It is hard, but none of mine have really complained about their resolutely healthy lunches, including water not juice.

I do witter on rather about tooth decay and fruit juice, and they have several friends with severe tooth problems, which helps.

TsarChasm · 30/04/2009 14:47

Water. Just tap water in a little drinking bottle.

I thought that's all they were allowed to have (although I'm happy with that anyway) but dc say other children do have squashes and juices. We're sticking with the water though .

MrsMcCluskey · 30/04/2009 14:50

Mine have fruit shoots

Snorbs · 30/04/2009 15:04

A small carton of organic apple juice plus a bottle of water. I heard that drinking fruit juices through a straw avoids much of the risk to teeth.

Friendlypizzaeater · 30/04/2009 15:10

Mine has a actimel drink

PinkBubblesGoApe · 30/04/2009 15:10

I tried loads of different plastic bottles but they kept leaking or DCs not closing them properly. Finally doscovered those metal SIGG bottles - no leakage at all and easy to take top apart to clean. They're nice looking, too!

bigTillyMint · 30/04/2009 15:11

Tap water in a sports bottle. They have lunch bags that keep them upright, so not much leaking!

kitbit · 30/04/2009 15:15

Water in a sports cap type bottle with flip lid.

I should add that my kids only have packed lunches twice a week.

ramonaquimby · 30/04/2009 16:51

tap water in a sigg bottle here too. juice every now and then a few times a month

pigsinmud · 30/04/2009 17:20

Water. On a Thursday ds1 has a carton of juice - hectic day. Dd1 has a carton on Friday - her hectic day! Ds2 always has water - does have hectic days but always leaves half the carton so lunch box comes back swimming in juice.

3littlefrogs · 30/04/2009 17:23

Bottle of water. Tap. In a sports type bottle.

PheasantPlucker · 30/04/2009 17:26

Just a bottle of tap water.

SallyJayGorce · 30/04/2009 17:26
