ds 17 months wants to pull down pants and sit on loo/potty

don't all jump on me - I am not in any way trying to train my 17 mth old ds.

But he has a 2.9 yr old sister who is trained so I guess he has picked up from her a bit.

So when, as just now, he brings me the potty and starts tugging at his trousers, it can't hurt for me to humour him can it? Maybe it will even make life a bit easier when I do train him (probably spring/ summer 2010)?

To be fair, he has done the occasional poo/ wee on the toilet.

Why not, if he is asking/instigating it then no problem. Some children are ready at that age. Although to be honest he is also quite likely to be making the decision for you about when potty training is going to happen!

Why on earth wouldn't you let him use the potty when he's asking to so clearly?

ChasingSquirrels · 28/04/2009 17:54

agree with nork, I can't imagine why you wouldn't let him.

Go for it - as you said could make it easier in the long run. I have a friend who's DD was out of nappies by 18 months!

My DD is 18 months and keeps squatting when she's no nappy on. Not sure if she's trying to tell me something or she just likes to do it - but thinking it's maybe time to get the potty out...........

DS was just 2 when he came out of nappies - no problem at all and he was dry at night straight away. Thinking I'll be really lucky if this happens again!

"Why on earth wouldn't you let him use the potty when he's asking to so clearly?"

LOL. because sod's law dictates that if I had come on here saying "isn't it great, my ds wants to use the loo!" then I would have had the "don't start too young it's cruel my son is 6 and still in nappies but healthy and happy and fulfilled" brigade on here giving me sh*t.

I can't see a problem, clearly, but was just seeking other advice/ opinions

oops, should have mentioned - most of the time when he says he wants the loo, he doesn't actually DO anything on it. Just sits there looking chuffed with himself

rofl - go with your own judgement then

Being fully toilet trained at 18 months didn't hurt my DS in the least. We started at 14 months and he was poo trained by 15 months but wee took a bit longer. (Stuffied his undies to catch accidents and save outfit changes.)

i started letting dd sit on potty when she wanted at 18 months, she has done all poss on potty since 19 months and is on her 3rd week in pants now at 21 months and doing really well so go for it
