Because there are no infected swine outside of Mexico?
Dunno.
Sorry, no help.
Switch off the telly and enjoy your baby.

Tortington · 28/04/2009 11:35

turnn the fucking telly off you muppet.

mexico - becuase the healthcare systme is wank and there are more cases there so its more statistically likely.

remember - don't cross the road either becuase 8 people per day in the uk die from road deaths.

amidaiwish · 28/04/2009 11:35

it's just your hormones. turn off the tv. there's nothing to worry about, the media is just desperate for something to report/talk about.

i remember bf DD1 and seeing a large beauty spot on my arm, bursting into tears thinking "oh what if that gets bigger and bigger and becomes skin cancer and i die and my dd is left without a mummy"

sounds mad now but hormones/emotions are so strong when you have had a baby!

don't be mean custardo. she's got a 5 week old baby.

MmeLindt · 28/04/2009 11:37

Switch the TV off.

Go for a nice long walk (if it is not pissing rain there like it is here)

Have a cappucino and a bit of cake

Gaaaaaze at your beautiful baby.

There, you feel much better now, don't you?

morningpaper · 28/04/2009 11:37

What custardo said

Your brain can easily fixate on something like this when you are undergoing the transformation from grown-up thinking woman to mother-robot. Turn off the telly and listen to some nice radio or music, and get a load of crappy novels out of the library. It's a lovely time of year and it's mad to sit inside convincing yourself that armageddon is coming. Join some mummy-and-baby groups and enjoy this lovely time.

Congrats on your baby!

I wouldn't say 'don't worry' like everyone else. Because you will, whatever people say. And I happen to think that concern over a flu pandemic is real and valid and that is why the WHO and global governments have been spending millions and billions preparing for it. Every UK health organisation and all local authorities have a plan for just this event (and it isn't a pandemic yet anyhow)

So I would say: yes, get a coffee and cake because you will find ENDLESS things to worry about with your little baby - that's what being a parent does to you. But also read up on the SENSIBLE advice (handwashing is the MAIN thing), and remember that there are enough drugs to treat most of the people who may get this flu, most people are having MILD symptoms, babies and children can be treated just as well as adults. Don't read scandalised press reports: read official advice on the DofH and WHO websites.

And if you start limiting your life because of worry, then you need to smack yourself round the chops and let custardo beat you with a wet fish.

MmeLindt · 28/04/2009 11:45

and get used to worrying.

I find motherhood is 30% worrying, 30% thinking that my DC are the most wonderful children in the the world and 40% thinking "just bloody do what you are told"

WilfSell · 28/04/2009 11:46

You forgot the 90% wiping mmelindt...

GypsyMoth · 28/04/2009 11:47
