Prams for newborns suitable for mothers under 5ft

Hi Everyone

I am hoping someone will be able to help. I am 38 weeks pregnant and 4ft 11in.

I need to find a pram, parent facing option, lie the baby flat as well as use later on in conjuction with off roader, has wheels that swivel 360 so that can move around shop corners smoothly and handled which lower down to good minimum height, small enough to easily get on and off buses without taking up space of a family of 4. Am I asking for the impossible? I was really excited when came across the bugaboo bee some months ago as itis the only pram I have found to fit most of these criteria - unfortunately is it fairly pricey and not really suitable from birth as the baby is not lying completely flat - also concerned about narrowness and whether it would get 2 - 3 years use out of it..

We have currently ordered a mountain buggy swift for use from 6 months. Although not being marketed as an off roaded its what I plan on using it for as its the only 3 wheeler I have been able to find which suits my dimentions - e.g. not so long that I have to look 50 metres ahead to see where I am going and with handles adjustable so that my shoulders are relaxed and elbows softly bent. Because of this I have had to compromise. The two downsides to this off roader is that it can't be swivelled round so that baby can face parent and also no add on so that I can also add a carry cot on the frame.

I had a Jane powertrack, very manouverable, handle adjusts (I'm 5'0), loved it so much I've now got a powertwin and will be going back to a single jane when ds2 is a bit older. We didn't take the single on the bus and it wasn't rearfacing once you put the seat unit on but really light to push and I usually peer round the side to avoid obstacles anyway. Oh and the seat units are really roomy (we've also had a phil and teds and mcclaren double to compare), even my 5 yr old can comfortably fit in and not perch.

Have you looked at a loola? It is rearfacing with adjustable handles but is apparently quite heavy to push... Good luck finding one to suit you

I am just over 5ft, I have a Micralite Toro, which is great although it doesn't rear face. You can use a carrycot, although I just used a sling for the first few months. It's light and great for buses, and has big rear wheels so is pretty good off road.

Thanks.. I also make a note of the Micralite...I don't mind still purchasing the swift for running/off road etc in the park but just want something else I can use which is rear facing, with a carry cot etc etc. I already have a sling but it would be nice to be able to go out and about with my mum who would love pushing the pram. Mum is also small - shorter than me..

I'm 5 foot and the bugaboo has been great for off roading, and has adjustable handle bars. it has a carry cot and can face either way, but it is expensive.

Depends what your baby is like though, my first mostly screamed in the pram when tiny so sling wearing much more pleasant!

I'm 5' too and dh is 6'2 and we have had a bugaboo which is brill as its adjustable.

beesonmummyshead · 27/04/2009 21:50

bugaboo's are ridiculously small! dh is 6'3'' and thankfully we tested our friends before buying one as DH had to bend to reach tha handles!!

wolfnipplechips · 28/04/2009 15:48

But the handles are adjustable on the bugaboo chameleon they go up very high.

Oranges - The bugaboo bee isn't really suitable for off roading as the wheels do not have treads and cannot be pumped.. it it the graco or the cameleon you have..? if so i have tried them both and they are far to awkward for me.. the cameleon is also unfortunately too expensive..if i am to buying a second buggy to run long distances with..

Beesonmummyshead - the bugaboo bee is perfect height for me which is why I have this dilema.. Although I can appreciate would not be suitable for hour husband..
