Which Real Nappy is the one for me....

Hello knowledgable ladies I need your help. I am very, very lazy, but I want to try real nappies. DD is 6 months now and it feels like the right time. I want something that you can use, wash and you're ready to go again. No liners (or must have very, very easy to insert liners), no folding, no wraps, no soaking. Does such a thing exist? I don't mind washing, it's the faffing that I can't abide and would put me off. I have advised to try Totbots which look lovely, but I wondered if there was anything else I should look out for. I would prefer lovely bright colours but I know I can't have everything. Thank you in advance for your help.

I started with bumgenius all-in-ones which are completely faff-free but do take a while to dry. Bumgenius pockets have one insert to go in and dry much quicker. I think you might end up trying a few until you find some one you are happy with.

Thank you afterglow.

Hello marthasmama - I will send your wonderoos back? (which you unbelievably kindly sent me). I now have a bit of a stash of nappies - I would also send you a couple of fluffles, an airfow wrap and a fleece wrap. They are fab and dry really fast but are difficult to fit clothes over! Please e-mail me your address - vikki _ higham @yahoo dot co dot uk

I have just out my first order in for some nappies from here they do stunning girly colours and embroidery

No it's ok! You hang on to them. Thank you though. I really want all-in-ones as I am so lazy and the Wonderoos scared me. Please, you keep them and use them. I'll have a look at that website though.

Oh my goodness, they have Moooncup bags!

haha - I am giggling my head off! Hilarious.

Honestly - you would get used to them in no time! It'll be no probs at all to send them back and you probably wouldn't need to adjust the rise now that she is 6 months (saying that Blake was a 10lbs 14ozs giant at birth, so i'm guessing). I haven't got any all in ones so can't recommend any sorry. I have Itti bitti d'lish which are 'snap in ones' and really cute, which have coloureed poppers so you match up what snaps in where.

I'm waiting to order a Wee Notions Wool AI2 (all in 2)to be nice and breathable for summer!

You should try and get a trial kit to borrow from someone before you buy or get a Lollipop advisor to come and show you a range of nappies

mistermoo · 25/04/2009 13:42

Hi marthasmama...

If you are very sure re. the faffing, then you definitely want an All-in-One (AIO). Three good ones are:

Thirsties Pocket AIO (does have a pocket for extra stuffing if you want, but has absorbency sewn in)
Bumgenius AIO - similar design to the popular pocket, but also with absorbency sewn in
Totsbots have just launched an AIO too.. haven't tried it.
Might be worth buying one of each to try, then going for one you like in more bulk?

Marthasmama · 26/04/2009 21:57

Thank you ladies I was pretending to have a RL this weekend so not MNing . twoclimbingboys, please keep them, you're clearly a better woman than I as you can cope wth faffing.

Octo - Lollipop advisor? I shall google.

mistermoo - Yes, that sounds like a plan. I have to admit that I have fallen in love with the Totsbots, they're so pretty!

I think DH is finally on board with the real nappies after he had to change an ecasping poo that went up to dd's neck. I pointed out that leaks don't happen with real nappies. that is right isn't it?

Marthasmama - there are loads of offers on from tommorrow as its Real Nappy Week - an ideal time to order stuff to try (that's my excuse anyway!)

There are some details on here if that's any help?

Marthasmama · 27/04/2009 07:48

OOoooooo!! I'm meant to be on a shopping ban (self-imposed) but if there's a bargin to be had..... Thank you very much!!!

LOl Marthasmum - is it obvious?!! Actually an ex-advisor but rejoining. I am more into testing, product development and baby shows atm. Would def recommend Flame to anyone on MN - she is great. Nappyzone also gives sound advice

I also run trials kits for the Wiltshire Real Nappy Network - which are free and contain all makes!

Octothechildherder · 27/04/2009 21:00

I also have an ebay shop

Marthasmama · 28/04/2009 09:10

Octo - What's the name of your eBay shop?

Dim question here - I got my Bumgeniuses second-hand so no instructions and got leaks from 3 months. Then I saw people here calling them 'pocket nappies' and lo and behold there's a pocket inside the wrap which presumably you put the nappy bit in?

Which then means the baby pees all over the outer bit? So do you need as many wraps as nappies, or what (have about 20 of the nappy bits and 3 outers). They do dry quickly which is nice as my wonderful leak-proof Bumbles take forever to dry especially now I don't have heating on.

Question 2 - where's the best online place to get wide flushable liners that doesn't take 3 weeks to deliver?

And Q3 - most of my nappies are on their fourth baby and rather grey. What's the best way to perk them up a bit? MrNC bought a box of lingerie whitener but not sure it'll do much or if I want it near my pfb's bottom!

Octothechildherder · 28/04/2009 14:02
  1. yes stuff the inserts into the pocket. If you need more absorbency stuff more in.
  2. liners - most places keep stock all the time - suprised you had to wait so long.
  3. pure, mio fresh or onelife pure are good sanitisers - some contain more chemicals than others - so make sure you get one that suits you.

Marthasmama - Ebay shop - ironically called Lollipop Cloth Nappies!

"I also run trials kits for the Wiltshire Real Nappy Network - which are free and contain all makes!"

ooh, do you work with Wiltshire Wildlife Trust? I think I might have had one of your kits back in January. Small world.

Octothechildherder · 28/04/2009 23:59

Probably - I've only just started doing this - so you probably got it through Gary Lamont at the Wiltshire Wildlife Trust.
