Another one for the Pukey. We paid a bit more so we had it with brakes, which once he was speeding along ensured he stopped!
Also having the brakes on the balance bike meant that he knew how to slow down and stop once riding a pedal bike independently.

I bought my 3 year old daughter a Tiny Bike - you can see it here: www.fun4kids.co.uk/bikes-ride-ons/balance-bikes/tiny-bike/tiny-bike.html

It's super light and she can pick it up with one hand - she loves whizzing round on it and it's really good quality - the pink is just gorgeous!

What I really like though is the footrests - alot I looked at didn't have anywhere to rest there feet whereas this has 2 footrests which means when she's whizzing along her feet don't have to just stick out

I was going to get the Strider but it looked a bit expensive for what I wanted but this does the job just fine

The Strider bike is only 3.1kg and adjusts to just 11" off the ground right up to 19".. They have a video of a one year old riding them as well as 6 year olds.

Striderbikescotland.co.uk have just reduced there bikes to £71.99 + free delivery. Helmets at reasonable price too.

Firstbike (German make) from the Wiggle site. Very light (plastic, but robust).

Strider bikes as mentioned above we bought ours from www.strider-rider.co.uk. great customer service, bike turned up quickly. they have a facebook page with some great videos on if you fb search for strider rider

louisea · 24/06/2011 19:18

There are some on e-bay as well.

chesky · 11/08/2011 16:51

I have a strider fromthis site www.strider-rider.co.uk/ they have a Fb page also. I ordered at about 11 and we had the bike the next day, they even gave me an hour delivery slot so i knew to make sure i was in at that time. There was even a free bell in the box.

My son loves is bike and he has not had it very long and already he is starting to balance. He is a very petite 2 year old and this bike doesnt need to be on the lowest setting for him. It is also really easy to adjust the seat height and the bikes are really light to carry.

Like a poster from the beginning of the thread, I wouldn't recommend getting any of them.

We took the pedals off the bike that my daughter had been riding around on with her stabilisers, the same time we took the stabilisers off.

Within 2 days she had mastered balancing and was ready for the pedals to go back on. A separate balance bike for such a short amount of time would have been a waste of money.

We have a likeabike and I can hang it off the back of my toddlers McLaren XT buggy with little problem. Pretty light.

Balance bike for us has been one of the best things we've bought. My ds was using it from 2 1/2 and graduated to proper bike without stabilizers at nearly 4 - very easy transition, just got on and cycled off. My nearly 2 year old is trying to use it now and in a very few months her legs will be long enough and she will be away.

Isla bikes. Really light, strong and hold their value. Rothan passed down to ds2 and cnoc 16 purchased for ds1 on his 4th birthday. Just got on and rode it, amazing! Xxx

Another vote for the Kokua. The only wheeled toy I really happily took out-comfortable to carry-until dd got a scooter. It is brilliant.

I got a strider bike from here www.kidscarsuk.com/strider-prebike-green.html and my child loves it, really light and easy to use.

I think strider is a usa based company, the bikes come in a range of colours and are great as a first bike. Your child will have to be able to walk to use them though, as hey will need to learn to balance on the bike, hence balance bike

We had the tesco one
