How did you potty train for poos?

I started potty training today and DS has just done a massive poo accident at the same time as a wee one. All cleaned up now, but after having a disaster training his brother, my confidence in this area is zero.

Did you wait until they said they needed to poo, or did you put them on the potty straight after meals? He has only eaten his first course when it happened so no time to even have pudding (admittedly I had sneaked 2 mins on the PC to change the Sainsbury's order).

He is quite 'runny' so worried he may literally not be able to control it, which was the problem his brother had for a bit.

Does he regularly poo at the same time every day? Is he predictable in any way? Poo + wee accident at the same time is because wee comes out while they're pushing the poo out. I left DS in nappies until he was reliable with poo, then transitioned to underpants with stuffing in the front to catch wee accidents. When he made his poo face I suggested we go to the loo to do it, he didn't object (if he had I'd have left him) and then he finished off on the toilet. From previously being completely unpredictable with poo he very quickly became a morning or evening only-on-my-own-toilet kind of guy.

Thanks Ches.

How old is he?

DD was trained for poos for ages, but would only do them in a nappy, not the loo, until she was 3.3. I actually found that quite convenient!

I wouldn't have a problem with that at all Anna - DC2 did this. It's just that they are in his pants and I know from a very very hard experience with our oldest, that this can be a nightmare when you are out and about.
