does your baby have a routine at 5 months?

if so what is it?

we have no routine whatsoever (juggling toddler too), baby was sleeping well, feed at 11pm feed at 5am then back to bed, it was lush.

but lately (last 3 weeks) he's not feeding well during the day, has a stream of constant dirty nappies (have had him checked nothing wrong with him), feeds at 11pmish then wakes again around 3am try to settle him back to sleep with no avail (so take him to bed with us) then feed him at 4/5am then try again to get him back to sleep again no avail so have to get up... he is therefore knackered during the day, grizzly as hell and won't feed. since 4am this morning he's had maybe 13oz of formula in total over 3 feeds!!!! i am just shattered! he is screamign now as he's tired and wants to be held to sleep... what do i do?? i guess i've set up a very large rod in my own very tired and sore back!!

anyway i've tried him on baby rice and mashed bananas with milk and he is taking tiny bits.... he is just under the 25 centile, although i don't want to go by numbers as i think he is a long baby!

what do you think? sorry this sounds so disjointed hard to think...

I know how that feels!!! I have DD 22months and DS 7 months. He is breastfed and slept in our bed for the 1st 5 months only settling for 2 hours max. I had no sleep and was on the edge.

My DH then took charge and put DS to bed when our DD went to bed and gave him a bottle of hungry baby milk in his cot. Every time he woke gave him his bottle without getting him out. It took 3 days now he only wakes twice if that.

They both get up at 6 go for morning nap at 9 and then he has sleep at 1 then bed by 6.

You will get there, for some reason when they get to 6 months it does get easier.

Oh, I sympathize. DS was just like this. I found that after the 6 month mark things did gradually get better. Weaning didn't just mean more calories - it also meant more structure in the day, and for some reason that also seemed to help structure the night better. That said, DH did 'take over' at night when DS reached 10 months and wasn't really feeding at night -- just sucking for comfort. But I do hope that things sort themselves out for you soon. These bad patches can feel as though they're going on forever.

DD has loads of bad nappies when she's teething, could it be that?
