Right, I think DS is ready, I'm ready, BUT... We're camping in 4 weeks time

Basically, we are camping twice in May, once for 2 night 11-12th and then 3 nights for the last weekend, so I either train him now, or wait until June (and TBH, I'm fed up of changing his nappies now)

I was speaking to a friend who said leave it about 2 months before going anywhere But will 4 weeks be long enough for him to get the gist of it do you think?

I have just started potty training dd and on day 9 she has had an accident, 2 yesterday, tbh we waited till we got back off a 5 day holiday as i thought the change in routine could undo any good work we had started and i didnt want to spoil the holiday fo dd and for us by worrying about wet clothes.
what we did was introduced the potty and offered it morning and night when she was undressed, we took it away but let her use it when she wanted.
then it wasnt such a big culture shock when we started real potty training.
hth
by the way i had a look at your profile to see how old your ds was and i live about 5 miles away from you, nice to find a local

Thanks Ilovetochat I might wait then until June, it just seems that I keep putting it off and putting it off, at this rate he'll be 18 before he can go to the loo by himself

I actually live about 5 miles north of Lichfield, sort of inbetween there and Burton. It's a lovely part of the country isn't it!!!!

I live 5 miles the other way so not quite as nice unfortunately but i worked in lichfield till i had dd, very lovely.
I would wait if i were you but definitely start a slow intro, dd has been pooing on the potty since january/feb, i have let her do it slowly.

For a boy I'd go ahead. Potty training while camping is not so bad -- just point percy at the nearest tree, and loads of fun stuff to aim for! Different story with poo, but wouldn't it be nice not to have to deal with nappies while camping?

ches · 18/04/2009 03:03

Oh, and yes, definitely agree with ilovetochat about slow process, possibly leaving in nappies but encouraging use of toilet/potty.

If he's really ready to potty train and wants to it won't take 2 months. Or 4 weeks. You'd be fine to go camping after a week I reckon. Why not give it a week, see how you go, give up if it doesn't work out?

For what it's worth, my sister potty-trained herself on a camping holiday when she was 19 months. It was warm and she was naked a lot - perfect opportunity!

Well, we got my DS out of nappies, and 2 weeks later we were flying longhaul to the UK with him refusing to wear a pull-up AT ALL, and we had no accidents....he was 3 years and 3 months though, and trained in one day.

Oh all encouraging stories! Right, I'll get all sorted this week (new pants, floor cleaner etc) and start next weekend I think, see how we go! about a month ago I was dreading this, now I;m quite looking forward to it! (I might not be quite so positive this time next week!)
