Potty Training 101 - How to Potty Train in 1 day

My potty training experience:

Step 1 - NOTE: This is the most important step!! - Wait until your child is 3 years old and has actually been ready to be trained for a loooong time but you've been too lazy / too busy / waiting for summer / fearing your inlaws visit in May with a child that is STILL NOT POTTY TRAINED!!

Step 2 - As your child fetches her favourite princess nappy you realize that they are finished and you haven't had time to buy some more. You tell her that the spider ate all her nappies. This is the same spider that assists with teeth brushing as he will eat her teeth if she doesn't brush it (sorry but it works).

Step 3 - Put one of the cute underpants on that you bought a year ago when you thought you were going to potty train her.

Step 4 - Go to Wisley Gardens any way and be prepared (for a change) with your new Pottette potty and wipes and extra clothes.

Step 5 - Be Extremely Surprised and Pleased as dd goes the whole day without an accident, weeing in the toilet when asked.

Step 6 - Be Utra Extremely Proud as this is now day 3 and she is still going strong and seems to be have potty trained herself without your help and you wonder why you didn't do this months / years ago.

Realize that it was this easy because I waited years!! And I didn't realize how much she loved those Disney Princess pullups!! Should have taken them away long ago. And this is my second one - the first was potty trained by her childminder at just over two years old.

Bad Mummy (but Happy)

I'm glad it is going so well... maybe you can explain this theory to DS1 (nearly 4) with whom I tried this approach and who still isn't dry during the day despite starting off using the toilet/potty quite reliably.

Pull-ups are the work of the devil you know - I just continually wash lots and lots of wet pants and trousers

Yes I must admit every few months or so I would try to get rid of the pullups but after only one or two accidents on my new white carpet I would put them on again!!

The final straw however came a few weeks ago when she sat under the dining room table drawing a picture on the wall with her poo I am still working on the stains on the carpet, so I decided it just has to get done NOW.

But really having not one nappy in the house made up my mind for me.

Its difficult to be patient but waiting (too) long did it for me.

Off whitish but too white for me. Or anyone with small kids.

Bought a newbuild house and the options were white, whiter or whitest carpet. We have loose rugs all over except under the furniture but obviously that was shortsighted of us
