Be honest - how good are you about DCs hand washing after toilet?

I started out insisting DD (2.5 yrs) washed hands after every visit - good hygiene, habit to train her into, etc. Good intentions have waned rather over months and now I have a newborn too and no time..

She does her businees on potty and doesn't come into any contact with bodily fluids as I wipe her afterwards. She generally wanders off while I am cleaning out potty. I am doing well if she pulls up pants rather than taking chance to remove them! I DO wash my hands of course.

Public toilets where she holds on to seat are a whole other story...

I'm the same - if DS manages not to wee on his hands or doesn't come into contact with anything I just wash mine, rather than his.

I'm the same. Keep thinking I should get a bit more rigorous on this; keep not being arsed

ChasingSquirrels · 15/04/2009 21:37

umm, insist on it when the poo, rather lax re wee

Same here. The intentions are there

Unfortunatly, I did go through a phase of insisting on handwashing, then everytime I was feeding a tiny dd2, ds and dd1 would disappear and flood the bathroom... "we're washing our hands mummy"

Daffodilly · 15/04/2009 21:39

Quite - life is too short and days are too long to add this to my list of regular arguments with DD.

I like to console myself that a) our bathrooms are very clean b) only our germs and c) probably "helping" her immune system biuld up!

Deluded? Moi?

I have a 3yo and a 1yo. When the 3yo uses the toilet (he is only just 3) - I wipe his bum adn wash my hands. I don't bother with his hands, although I believe this may be frowned upon at school . My mum says it's OK not to wash hands at home, but at school, kids might have worms/d&v bugs etc lurking etc so should wash hands at school.

Afraid I insist on it every time even though its the frequent cause of tantrums. He always holds onto seat though.
