Talk to me about games consoles for kids

We haven't branched out into games consoles yet, but the DDs are 3.5 and 6.5 and I'm beginning to feel the need of something portable that will keep one of them happily occupied for an hour while the other does a club. And we are going on a long journey soon, so something for that would be good, too.

DD2 quite likes her friend's Leapster, but I'm guessing it's too young for DD1? Is there anything on the market that would cater for both of them? I am a complete console virgin, so tell me the basics!!

I don't think you can go wrong with Gameboy Advance. There are games for all ages, including adults. Your younger child may struggle, but your older one will be in her element.

I think I meant DS when I said Gameboy Advance - showing my age .

DS is the dual screen thingy.

Thanks - sounds promising. Am quite happy to be a bit out of date if it saves us a few quid.

Now thinking ahead to the summer, when they both have birthdays - maybe a joint present.
