Wraps that fit a skinny baby

Hi, I'm new here.

Can anyone recommend a wrap for my 3 week old DD who has very skinny legs, she weighs 6.4lb at the moment.

I have three small motherease wraps, two airflow, one Rikki and an older style size 0 totsbots wrap and none of them fit round her legs so i got leaks when i tried her in the cloth nappies.

I currently have 4 diddy diapers and a couple of size 0 bimbles. I'm thinking of getting more of the diddy diappers as I'm trying to keep the cost down.

I would like to get her into cloth full time ASAP.

Thanks

Sorry - I've no idea but thought I'd bump it for you

Would love to know too as I have a 6lb 8oz baby and none of my fluff fits, even Sandys xs and airflow xs are too big

CarGirl · 13/04/2009 20:34

at those tiny babies, sorry no idea mine all started out at 9 & 10lbs BUT they still took around 10 days to chunk up in the thighs.

I think E do a newborn wrap as well - I'd try that.

If it helps, my DS was a skinny one and was 5lb at birth, but we used disp. for first few weeks due to emcs. Later found motherease MEOS birth-to-potty nappies fit the best. I guess it was because the added bulk of the nappy filled out the space in the wrap. He did have a rather large bottom until he got onto the second stage. But the nappies did well on my skinny boy because at 1 week before being 3 he has only just given them up. Some people complain the MEOS don't fit until potty, but on a skinny boy, mine certainly did (and he was late to the potty!).

The Nature Baby nappies were the worse fit on my skinny boy, with Tots Bots not far behind. They were the ones that leaked for me, irrespective of wrap. Their rise was just too low!

LittleFairySmile · 13/04/2009 20:38

I should have said "He did have a rather large cloth bottom" as his bottom is so skinny it really almost isn't there!

I do have a MEOS to try a bit later on but i think they fit from 8lb.

Cargirl do you have a link to that newborn wrap?

Thanks

Try the MEOS now, my boy was in his from about 6lb odd - there is a prem way to fold, let me see if I can find it!

LittleFairySmile · 14/04/2009 17:29

I can only find this but I'd love to know if it fits your babe - as they did for mine! It just looked very big!

minicorrect · 14/04/2009 19:50

Thanks LittleFairySmile will give that a go and see how we get on.

Hi there

Have you also tried a XS Thirsties wrap?
The link on their website says

X-Small - 6-12 lbs (3 - 5.5 kg)

I had one, and it was very small - didn't last for long, but was what we used right at the beginning. Also has a cut-out for the umbilical cord... nice touch, I thought.

LittleFairySmile · 14/04/2009 20:56

Oh, just read my post from earlier and it sounds really bossy. I didn't mean it to, I meant to say something like 'I would try it now and see' rather than 'do it!!' oops - hope that was taken as well meant advice rather than an order! Sorry!

Anyway, did you try the MEOS and how was it?

minicorrect · 14/04/2009 21:28

Thanks mistermoo, I will take a look at that Thirsties wrap.

LittleFairySmile, not bossy at all, I did give it a try (curiosity got the better of me) but it was a little loose around her legs, I will try again in a week or so.

Don't know if you would be looking for any secondhand wraps, but I've just had a bigger baby than I expected (born on Saturday & weighed 8lb 14oz), so I have about 5 wraps that he couldn't even fit into from day 1! One is a Weenotions size xs, with a cute/funky frog print - the wrap could well be brand new, as looks like it was never worn - and was too small for my big boy! Also have 2 size small Poochies wraps - similar shape to the ME Airflow but smaller around waist & legs (hence, too small for us, as small Airflow is just perfect!), both the Poochies are brand new - one neon orange and the other bright aqua blue. Also have a quite dinky/small size 1 Nappy Nation wrap, with tartan print outer. And then have an un-branded popper fastening white wrap which is very small too.

Anyway, just ignore my message if not the sort of thing you're looking for! I just saw your message and remembered that I have wraps I couldn't even use, so thought I'd mention them. If interested, I can sort out photos/prices etc. Haven't got that far yet! My email is [email protected] if you want to know anything further about them xx

Looks like you've got a solution Minicorrect, but if they don't work you could try Imse Vimse wraps. My little one was a very skinny newborn and has remained pretty much that way (now almost 3). I found that Mothersease cut into him dreadfully - both waist and legs - as I had to pull them tight to keep them up! The Imse organic wrap is lovely, but not as waterproof when they get bigger bladders. The Imse soft wrap is a good alternative. I shall definitely try the organic for a newborn next time round. I got mine from Twinkleontheweb - nice ladies, very helpful.
Good luck.
