hello! help me with a guilt trip i am currently having. DH and i had our first baby this jan. i'd say the one thing we miss most is prob the huge lie ins at the weekend. little girl went down at 9.30ish last night and it's now 9.30am, DH has done his duty with the nappies and is fast asleep again which i can't really blame him for. am breastfeeding so i'm kind of forced into conciousness by complaining stomach that require more time to be satisfied. DD is normally wreathed in smiles at this point of morning and ready for a play but if left to own devices will go back to sleep as well. is it bad to let her sleep on past 12 hours without any human interaction and join in the lie in or should i be insisting we (or at least DH) have a play with her before she drops off again???

don't wake your DH up and let your DD sleep if that is what she needs

i don't think you can force sleep on a baby. if she's happy to lie in then that sounds brilliant. enjoy.

i don't think whether you play with her for 20 minutes every sunday morning will affect her GCSE results in later life

thanks dragonbutter! i know i'm being a bit anal.
this morning DH dropped off really quickly but sometimes will lie in cot cooing at toys for up to an hour and i feel really mean that she's getting more input from a stuffed zebra than from me and dad... also have to admit envious that dad doesn't feel guilty at all!

you mean DD not DH?

i reckon it's fine as she seems happy enough.
she'll let you know when she's had enough i'm sure.

omaoma · 12/04/2009 09:25

oh yeah DD not DH - sorry, time to get some more sleep then...

go on, have a snooze if you can, before i make you come round here and supervise my feral children so i can have a nap.

Your baby sounds really content

As a new mum you should get as much sleep as possible so if your DD is happy to sleep then get your head down.

I say enjoy too!
My dc2 is the same age. I usually have to wake him for 7.30am due to school run for dc1.
However the first 5 days of this holiday dc1 was away with g/parents.. dc2 slept until 8.30ish each morning, woke, then I'd get up have a wee, then either find him asleep again or happily playing, so got a bonus extra 30 mins to myself before the day really began.. make the most of it
