Pocket Money?

Hi,

Just wondering how much pocket money you give your children if any?

How much at what age?

Weekly / monthly?

Is it "job" related?

Have 3 children 8, 6 and 2 and we don't really give a set pocket money and wondering if we should.

Thanks

DD gets pocket money each Saturday. Started at £1 when she was 5 and has increased by 50p with each birthday - today is her first £2 pocket money

It is related to homework/piano broken down on a chart to, for each school day:

20p - homework done, no fuss or messing about
20p - piano practise, no fuss or messing about

I also reserve the right to deduct pocket money for poor behaviour, although fortunately not had to carry that out yet.

If she gets all 10 stars for a week she gets to chose a magazine or a book from the charity shops.

My boys get 10p per year of age, plus 10p bonus each week. Started when they were about 5 or 6.
So ds2 (9) gets £1.

ds1 (11) gets his £1.20, but he also has additional spending power. He gets £20 per week for bus fares (£8.50) plus school dinners (say, £2 per day). If he chooses to buy cheaper meals and drink water instead of buying drinks, he can easily save around £3 extra per week.

We don't exchange cash, instead it is all written down in a book. This encourages them to save up for something special, rather than just blowing it on junk.

Oh, and we don't link pocket money to good behaviour or chores. They are expected to behave well and to do jobs round the house anyway.

Mine are 6 and 8 and do not get pocket money as it would be giving money just for the sake of it imo. I expect them to do certian things ie keep their rooms tidy, music practice, homework, set the table, maybe brush up floor after supper etc and I want them to do it to have pride in their themselves and their things and not for financial gain iyswim. They get a certain amount of money to spend when we go away in holidays etc so as they can buy a little something as a reminder/token of their holiday. But other than that I feel that at their age, as they get everythig they 'need' from us anyway, and have bank accounts where money is deposited monthly for their future, that giving them money every week is pointless at the moment.
