Which is best: wet or dry pailing?

I'm in the process of switching DD to reusables. She's in her first real nappy now and I'm still undecided how to store wet/soiled nappies. I will be washing every other day.

I dry pail, I'm not up for dealing with nappy soup!

I dry pailed. I also didn't like the idea of nappy soup

Me too - with a bit of tea tree oil in for the bad ones!

I dry pail but i find if they are left more than 36-48 hours the smell is harder to shift when washing.

dry pail i would say, wet pailing actually destroys nappies, elastic and what not, wrecks wraps competely (ime)
plus its gross...

lol!

Dry

seriously- poo soup errgghhhhh!!!

dry pail- if you ever get stinky nappies you can soak them overnight in vinegar etc but on a day to day basis i'd forget it!

I wet pail. I just use a rubber glove to get them from bucket to machine and flush the remaining water away, it's really not that bad. Plus it means that as they've soaked in Napisan I can sling other things into the machine with them and wash the whole lot at 40 rather than having to do a rather limiting 60 wash.

I dry pail, but I give the day's nappies a rinse cycle in the evening then decant into another lidded bucket til wash day.

i used to wet pail but stopped when ds1 became mobile and liked investigating a bit too much

have been dry pailing ever since, for him and now for ds2.
it's absolutely fine and I haven't noticed the slightest difference in smell or cleanliness or anything

and fwiw I always wash my nappies at either 30 or 40 degrees, with some bicarb and nothing else.

oh, i always do a pre-wash though, bnecause modern machines are designed to save water, so they will end up being washed in dilute wee if you don't either rinse or pre-wash first. it helps a lot

nowwearefour · 07/05/2009 19:44

i dry pailed. soooo much easier though the whole dilute wee point is a good one if they arent rinsed first

I dry pail and it works really well. I wash every other day and I never really get a build up of smell or anything.
