What do you think?

no. think it's ott.

lucasnorth · 09/04/2009 13:43

Mine does, but mainly because we wanted to get into the routine of wearing one before she gets a bike.

Most kids in the park don't though. In fact she's had several other toddlers trying to wrestle it off her

littlerach · 09/04/2009 13:45

Dd2 does but only because dd1 does for her bike.

TBH, dd2 has come off her scooter much more than dd1 off her bike.

My dd does, probably a bit ott, I don't see any other kids in the park wearing them, but she actually really likes it, think because it's like her dad's cycle helmet.

She does fall off alot, she's only just turned 3 and think it gives her a bit more confidence, she wears knee pads too .

dd (nearly three) doesnt on her scooter or her trike which she has just learnt to pedal
but i echo lucasnorth sentiment that it may be good to start young, dd looked on at a 6 yr old riding a bike the other day and said in awe, please can i have a helmet now i can ride properly?

cockles · 09/04/2009 13:53

Yes, and on bike.. he goes fast on hard pavements & it makes me nervous. It's a royal pain though, I hate wearing a helmet myself.

After the accident ds had yesterday on his scooter I would say yes
He may not have grazed half his face the day before going on holiday if he was wearing one!

becstarlitsea · 09/04/2009 14:04

DS does on his scooter. My sister bought it for him - she is a doctor and did housejobs in Paediatric A&E. She gave it to me with the words 'Please, please make him wear it.' Probably OTT, medical family means we usually are OTT, we are far too aware of how badly wrong things can go...

BlueberryPancake · 09/04/2009 21:40

yes, yes, yes. Some of the little scooters (with two wheels at the front, one at the back) are very fast, and even small children can go very fast on them. Loads of kids have them here, 2, 3, 4 year olds, and they zoom on the pavement. When I am reversing my car from our parking onto the street, I am always extra careful to check for kids but I always fear that a kid on one of those scooters will either hit my car or I will hit him/her. They are very dangerous. My kids don't have scooters, but if they'd have one they would have to wear a helmet.

Mine used to have to and i think DD1 5 and DD2 4 should still wear it TBH. They do go quite fast on them.

trixymalixy · 09/04/2009 22:00

Yes, my 2 year old DS fell off his trike a couple of weeks ago and ende dup in a&e with a head injury.

IlanaK · 09/04/2009 22:04

Yes, my kids do. Same ones they wear for their bikes. They didn't at first and then I ran into an aquaintance who told me about the accident her child had when the front wheels got caught in the pavement rut and he went flying over the top of his scooter.

Recently , the same thing happened to my ds2 and his helmet was being worn too high up on his head and he bashed up his forehead badly. Now I am extra careful that they are not only wearing them, but wearing them correctly.

angrypixie · 09/04/2009 22:14

Mine don't but do on their bikes which is a bit bonkers seeing as they scoot every day and at great speed whereas they cycle really slowly as they are still v nervous/cautious.

outnumbered2to1 · 14/04/2009 21:30

my DS1 didn't until he fell off and crashed into our metal gate post. He need six stiches in a gash above his eye and will now have a permanent scar. Our neighbours call me the helmet police now because any kid on a scooter or a bike is greeted by "where's your helmet?"

LolaLadybird · 16/04/2009 13:13

DD is getting a scooter from grandparents for her birthday and wouldn't have occurred to me to get a helmet had it not have been for a friend talking about where to shop for one. She said whenever her DS falls off his scooter, it tends to be over the handlebars so she wouldn't let him out without it.
