Thinking of buying some cloth nappies for emergencies. What should I get?

BabyG is 22 weeks old - I haven't got a drier and really can't commit to full time cloth, but we are pretty rural and I'm pretty dizzy so I often have to rush to Spar for nappies that cost £££

WAs thinking it might be an idea to have some cloth "back up" for when I run out of nappies!

What would you recommend I buy as an emergency kit?

TIA

I use tots bots with motherease wraps. I am so glad I started using cloth. I had no grand eco reason to switch from disposables, I just stumbled across a bargain pack of tots bots in TK MAxx and haven't looked back. I am really pleased with them, I never get leaks and it's actually no bother. We don't have a car and it was a nightmare trying to get nappies home as well as groceries. fwiw, I don't have a drier, or even an outside line, and I find that the tots bots dry quickly on an airer inside. I have a pack of 5 fluffles you could have if you're after cheapies. I think I've only ever used 2 of them but will check. £22 posted

Thanks littlelamb, but my local authority is giving mums a £50 voucher to spend on real nappies so I plan to use that

Ooo bargain I keep meaning to check if my local authority does a similar scheme as I could do with some more wraps. I will do it now...

You could buy used and get more for your money? If you have no drier - fluffles are great with motherease airflow wraps.

oops i meant £30 voucher but you have to spend £45 IYKWIM. I don't know if I could get used with the voucher, but that would be def worth considering, thanks

Yup, fluffles or another microfibre nappy with ME Airflows would be ideal. I don't think Fluffles are available new anymore though.

Bamboo nappies are fab but they are slow to dry, the ones you linked to are really good for tall babies.

you'll need wraps with them, Motherease are the best.

MamaG · 09/04/2009 11:20

Thanks OMG. Do you think that is a good price, too?

Yup, that's definitely a good price. It's worth checking if they'll let you return them (unused) if you don't like them though.

Most people use separate fleece liners with this sort of nappy, it provides a stay dry layer, helps prevent staining and makes it easier to remove the poo too. You can buy fleece liners but TBH it's much much cheaper (and just as good) to cut up a fleece blanket.

Bamboo needs 10 washes before it reaches full absorbency, I usually do 5 (one or two with detergent and the rest without) and then change DD a little more frequently the first few time they are worn.

Good luck, don't forget your ME Airflow wraps!
