sore bottom in cloth

Hi all. dd3 had been in cloth since birth, took her out about couple months ago due to very nasty rash that wouldn't clear up. Eventually cleared but has left very slight marks iykwim on her skin. (ie, you can see where the rash was)

Anyway, have ventured back to cloth this week, just tots and nature wraps, nothing fancy, fleece liners. And within 2 hours when i changed her she's all red again.

I wash in non bio, occasionally giving nappies a thorough boil, rinse twice.

What could it be do you think? I have stopped using pure (sanitiser)in the pre wash, do you think that's it?

Thanks for any advice in advance.

Have you tried using distilled vinegar to wash any residue out of the nappies? And metanium is brilliant for nappy rash. I'm sure someone who knows more will be along in a bit

I was using metanium, still took weeks (genuinely) to clear up fully.

Occasionally use vinegar, should i use it all the time then?

thanks for response

If metanium hasn't worked it might be worth a trip to the HV or GP. When ds had a rash that wouldn't clear with metanium the HV diagnosed thrush. A prescription of canesten cleared it right up. She said metanium is such good stuff that if it doesn't work it's worth a further investigation. fwiw, I would never have suspected thrush in ds, but the diagnosis was right.

its clear now but i've put a sposie on her for bed as she came up red with only 2 hours in tots this afternoon.

I was going to ask if you were sure the original rash wasn't thrush which might have been 'reintroduced' with the nappies. But, if you've washed them hot (60 or hotter) since the rash that shouldn't be possible...

Could it be powder build-up? That causes amonia to be produced when they come into contact with urine. How much powder do you use in the wash?

In any case it's definitely worth a trip to the HV/GP if metanium isn't working.

I was going to post with same problem. We've always washed nappies and liners at 60, used Morhulin, Metanium and Canestan, none of which helped. Rash only cleared up when I put him in disposables. As soon as he had 1 cloth nappy on the rash flared up straight away.

I'm wondering if it's the fleece liners so am going to stop using them and see if that makes a difference

i second the fact it COULD be the fleece, it sounds like a reaction rather then an infection iuswim as it only took 2 hours to flair back up. i cant wear fleece brings me out in a blotchy rash.

try disposable liners for a few days to see if thats the problem or not. if it is im sure you can get silk liners as an alternative but they are expensive.
