So happy with my boy

DS, nearly 3, has chosen to use the potty for three days in a row! A few wee-wee misses, and a poorly tummy, so nasty poo-y pants twice today, but he wanted clean PANTS straight away! No mention of nappies, except when he sleeps!

I'm so please with my boy, and feel glad I didn't push him no matter what my parents and in-laws have been saying the last YEAR AND A HALF!

Aww, well done your boy.
Am in same situation, DS2 was 3 last month and showed no signs of being ready to train (despite big hints from GP's!).
Suddenly, in 1 week he is using the loo...have had a few misses in that time but today none at all, and the CM took him out for the day to the zoo.
I think we were obv right to wait, DS1 was ready at just after 2, but DS2, no way!
Bet you're glad that you trusted your instincts!

I'm v interested to read this as I've been planning to potty train DS starting this Friday. He's 2.4 years and although he happily sits on the potty about half the time (when bribed with a story while he's sitting), he's been vehemently anti the idea of wearing pants. I'm now wondering whether I should wait until he's ready - the reason I decided to do it now is that he's dry for half the night and he'll be on Easter hols from nursery so I'll have him at home for 1.5 weeks.

When I present his training pants he says he doesn't want to wear nappies and that he loves his pants. Up until now I've been following my instincts about parenting, which has served me well. Reading your posts makes me question why I've been ignoring my instincts about his readiness for the potty.

Honestly, he is so pleased with himself. I really feel for him! I am just so very glad that I didn't push him. I just posted on another thread, hang on, I'll cut and paste - save tying again!

"Three days ago DS (nearly 3) decided to wear pants all by himself. He has known where they are for ages and that he should wear them, but we never made a big deal about it. We got the 'everybody poos' book and DH and I both had an open-door policy when we went to the toilet at home."

He always knew what to do, but didn't want to. He decided one morning he wanted to.

We will see how it goes, but are giving him lots of praise and he is loving it. He feels proud of himself too.

MrsMerry, get nice pants (asda are good), DS2 loves his Thomas and Mr Men pants, has made things a lot easier.

DS2 has tended to want to be the "baby" of the family and now he revels in his "big boy" pants.

LittleFairySmile · 06/04/2009 22:24

Oh, good advice. Yesterday we let DS chose some pants. He got Bob the Builder ones, and was really sad when I siad I wanted to wash them first.

We had only plain ones in the drawer before!

LFS, how cute does your clever boy look in his pants?
And how relieved am I to be almost (nighttime still, but tackling that soon) nappy free for the first time in 5 years??

MrsMerryBunnyGirlHenry · 06/04/2009 22:28

Good tip re pants, I've been wondering about getting Thomas ones as he adores Thomas. I'll pop down to Asda this week.
