Please advise on wraps to go over bulky terries

Hello. I'm new to terries but not a cloth newbie. DS is 17lbs (3 months old) and I've just started using terries today with some Kushies and Junior Joy wraps I happened to have. I was surprised at how big the terries are (Bright Bots) and they seem bulky on DS (I know I need to try out different folds too), but I got a Kushies wrap over it. Unfortunately it leaked, but DS was in his car seat the whole time so maybe that contributed to the problem? I've just changed him and used a Junior Joy wrap this time so we'll see how that goes. Whatever, we don't have enough so I'll need to get 3-4 more wraps.

I don't have the budget to trial lots of different wraps, so wondered if someone could suggest a wrap that will work well? DS is quite a chub round the legs and got terrible welts with small Airflow wraps even on the biggest settings.

Hmm I was going to say airflow but then saw you'd had problems with them. I use airflow, rikki or tots bots wraps over my bulkier nappies, the tots ones aren't quite as good as motherease (IMO) but they are generously sized.

Yeah I was going to suggest Airflow too - that's what I used. Could you maybe borrow the next size up in the airflow and see if your ds was ok with those?

MrsHD · 02/04/2009 20:42

He has eczema and generally sensitive skin and I've heard the Airflow bindings can cause probs, but if I can borrow a bigger Airflow I'd be happy to try it. In the meantime have ordered two Thirsties, slapped wrist!

I had some pull up pants from disana for ds1. They were very generously sized and worked really well. They didn't leave red marks round his legs which other brands of pull up wraps did.

As for the kushies wraps I have not got on with them with either of my boys. I love the bright colours, but I have found that the cotton binding on the legs and waistband gets wet easily and that is what wicks it onto clothing. However I do know several people who got on well with them so it could just be my technique of putting them on.

This is a link for the disana pull ups www.twinkleontheweb.co.uk/acatalog/Pull_On_Pants.html have them in the 2 larger sizes. I have also heard good things about the bummis wraps but I've not tried them.

tutu100 · 02/04/2009 20:58

sorry that should have been I have them in the 2 larger sizes.

Thanks tutu100. I don't like the look of the Kushies' elastic on the back, it looks like it would be uncomfortable sitting right against the skin, but I'll see how DS reacts to them. It's so much trial and error, isn't it?

The best with terries bar none IMHO.

BeehiveBaby · 02/04/2009 21:44

That would be the original ones, sorry.

PfftTheMagicDragon · 02/04/2009 21:45

I was sure the title said "bulky terriers"

nothing constructive to add though, sorry

Why not try straight forward pull on waterproof pants from Boots. I think they come in packs of five, and are very cheap if you're on a budget. They also have nice soft leg openings which avoids red marks. It's important to get the right size, and make sure all the nappy is contained inside the pants to stop leaks.

Onelife popper covers, motherease rikki, lollipop velcro - does your council do a nappy trial kit so you can try different ones out to save buying and making a mistake.
