Question for cloth nappy users on wraps...

Hi, I'm new to mumsnet and babies and cloth nappies, just finding my feet with a twelve-week old. I was hoping all you cloth nappy experts out there could give me some advice. We're using Motherease one-size and Sandy's nappies, which are doing great, but the airflow wraps we're using (medium on a chubby fourteen-pounder)always seem to dig into her little legs, leaving nasty red marks that take a while to fade. I've tried putting them on the loosest setting but then the nappies leak!

Does anyone have any tips on how to avoid this, or any suggestions of other wraps that won't dig into her as much?

Thanks!

Hi,

I could have written that post. My DS is 13w2d and a whopping 17lbs. We were using MEOS as well with small airflow wraps, and even on the biggest of the small settings on the naps and the biggest settings on the wraps he was getting terrible welts round his legs. For now I have put the MEOS to one side until he's big enough for the smallest of the big settings, sold his small Airflow wraps, and have just bought some terries. Today is our first go with them - terries 1 Heather 0 so far lol! We had a big wee leak down the leg. I'm using some Kushies wraps I was given and I've just put a Junior Joy over his most recent nappy.

I don't have any advice as such, but I'd give the wraps a whirl on the widest leg setting (as long as the nap is tucked well inside the wrap the wrap doesn't need to be v tight, it's not like tying string round your trouser leg!) and see how you get on. I'm just starting to research the best wraps to go over terries, as I'm finding them bulky even on enormous Max!

I like thirsties wraps. We had to ditch the me because of red marks - the binding doesn't agree with dd2.

Scoot about the washable thread part 7? There are EXPERTS there. They know everything.

Nature babies wraps have a rise adjustment, which might help. Also ME did a M/L which was slightly bigger and helped bridge the gap.

I had a few pennies in the PayPal acct from selling Max's grobags, so have ordered two Thirsties. Bit extravagent but hey, 99% of our stuff for him is 2nd/3rd/4th hand so the odd new purchase should be allowed!

MrsHD - you need to move out of the small wraps.

IME (and I'm on my third in cloth!) ME wraps are fab, but the small ones only do the first 8 weeks or so (and I have teeny babies), medium do until around a year with my chappies and then large all the way to potty training for us. I've not needed the M/L size, but many swear by them. I like the velcro ones until you have a toddler who'll whip them off and then it's time for the poppers!

ME are ace - totally bomb proof. But they do seem to give dd2 huge red marks

DS2 (20mo) has quite chubby thighs - we managed to totally skip using size 2 nappies and medium wraps and went straight to size 3 nappies with large (and now x-large) ME wraps

(I am shocked because DS1 (3.8yo) was wearing this size up until his 3rd birthday)

Just posted this on another thread, but I've found simple pull on plastic pants from Boots to be very good. The last lot I bought came in a pack of five and were very cheap, but they are pretty good quality, with nice soft leg opening to stop red marks.

I agree with otherss - your wraps are too small at three months - move up a size - would recommend onelife popper covers too.

Thanks for all the advice - especially re the Boots pants, that would save some pennies. I'll buy one large ME wrap and see how it does...

I am using ME and get on well with them BUT I am hoping to eventually use Wool wraps. You need to treat tthem with lanolin once in a while (it is easy) but you only need to wash them every week or 2 and they are lovely and soft. They let the wee evaporate so you wouldn't have as wet nappies.

Or somewhere in between is fleece wraps but don't know an awful lot about these.
