Out and about when potty training...

Childminder started potty training ds last Thurs and had a 4 wet pants/trousers for first 2 days. Over weekend, we have been doing pants at home with accidents, but at east he's shouting potty when he's just about to wee (it's just not giving us tme to get him on potty). However, when we went out we were doing pants with nappy over the top and asking him to tell us when he wanted a wee, which worked fine, as we would then just change wet pants without worrying about the leakage. Yesterday, we managed to get on the potty in time so I know we are making progress. Today, he refused the potty this morning, and then wet pants when we were at Tumbletots without telling me. I'm worried the nappies are preventing the wet trousers that he hates so much and he going to get worse. So, my question is, when can I take potty with me? To the park? What do others do - we will both go stir-crazy if we have to stay inside for the foreseeable future. Other mums with busy toddler boys must have gone out while potty training surely!!!?

We took potty EVERYWHERE with us for both DD and DS for a while.
DS's best 'wee in a potty whilst out' was in the middle of the playground at school after we had dropped DD off, DD's was on the train at Whipsnade

We took the potty when the weather was bad; now if we're outside I take him behind a bush and hold him under his thighs. Do the same over a loo if we need to use a 'real' loo. He seems to like it and wees pretty much on cue. You need to make sure the willy is pointing the right way though!

Buy a potette = fab product! Fits into changebag easily!

Thanks. Have yet to see anyone whip out a botty from under their buggy in a park/shopping centre etc (even when the loos are few and far between) and worry dreadfully about the stroppy looks I'm sure I would get!!!

I take the potty everywhere, too. I have a wide shoulder bag and it's not very heavy. I haven't had to get it out in a non-loo place yet, but if I had to I would. So there's some solidarity!

We have a potette but DD is really unsure about sitting on it (didn't help that it half collapsed the first time she tried).

we have to new type of pottete. its much sturder then the old one, so make sure u get the pottete plus not the old one.

i take mine everywhere, in the last week we have had wees in:

the playground
the bus
frozen isle in morrisons (the shop had no loo in it so what do u do)

dont worry about what ppl think, if he needs to go he needs to go.
oh and if he is a boy you can do it standing up and just hold the potty under his willy, that way its not obvious neither, cos u can pull his trousers down slighty and he can wee over the waist band ifuswim
