he is 8.5 months
i just started making the "pssss" noise this week when he weed during nappy off time
then today thought i would try cueing him - blimey! worked 4 out of 5 times
but anyway

what is next stage please? how does he tell me he needs to go, or do i just keep cueing at appropriate times? does it have to be all or nothing? i mean if we are busy or i don't remember, will it be a problem if he goes in his nappy? i am a bit daunted by the whole thing really - yet another thing on my mind - but i am excited by the concept and i think it would help his nasty nappy rash / eczema so much

how do we do poos? he usually poos while breastfeeding and doesn't make obvious grunts or straining, usually

thanks in advance for any help

on another note ds's bottom distinctly looks better
he is itching like mad but i am hoping madly that this is because it is HEALING
do you think?

also he doesn't seem to like going in a strange toilet if we are not at home
is that usual? any hints? he did go twice when i was at work yesterday but we had 2 upset refusals today and it put me off a bit
you feel like a child molester holding a little baby over the loo anyway and in public toilets you know everyone must be listening going "wtf is she DOING to the poor baby?"

LOL, At the WTF onlookers I think my funniest moment was a HV telling me that babies can't have bladder control whilst I pottied baby DD in front of her. I was so chuffed when DD wee'd on cue...he he he (As you know they don't always wee on cue)

Yes, DD has always showed a marked preference to pooing on the home toilet, a preference I share.

Wee wise you will get some refusals. If you know he needs to go, carry him in arms for a few minutes, when he starts wriggling re-offer the toilet.
Or place him on a potty in front of the main toilet and when you wee, the sound should trigger him to wee (only if he needs to)

Or run the sink tap, whilst he is on the potty/toilet for the same result.

DD had a terrible bleeding infected nappy rash amd ECing helped it to clear up and it NEVER returned. She didn't have any further cases of nappy rash and I hope your DS is as lucky.

Keep him nappy free as much as possible...air will help his rash to heal faster...more baby It is horrible when they are feeling sore.

more poor baby

FrannyandZooey · 02/04/2009 18:33

oh wonderful, loads of help thank you
he has always had sensitive bot but with onset of eczema has had nappy rash solidly since christmas
only steroid cream even touches it and i loathe using it, but he gets so itchy and sore at times we have had 2 courses of it
eczema now in abeyance (don't like to say it is permanently gone but fingers crossed) however the nappy problem continues

unfortunately we can seldom have his nappy off as he scratches and makes himself bleed
you can manage it for a few minutes at a time if you hold his hands and play with him, but it is very hard with ds1 wanting my attention
as it improves it becomes easier to do it for say 10 mins, but i have to sit with him and give him my full attention the whole time or he will hurt himself

i need one of those collars they have for post operative animals to stop them scratching their wounds! one that would fit round his waist

Sorry to hear how bad your DS skins been

My DS has been diagnoised with eczema too, luckily just patches on his back and at all his joints and mild enough to treat with E45 to date.

My husband has terrible eczema and we know all about steroids cream and how sparing you have to be with it. Lets hope both our baby boys outgrow it, some babies do you know.

Babieseverywhere · 02/04/2009 18:41

That must be hard Dh said have you tried cotton mitts on your DS ? Apparantly you can put cream on underneath and it stops the itching.

FrannyandZooey · 02/04/2009 18:46

(i think he might have mostly outgrown it already - i daren't say it as it feels like tempting fate - but it was all over his body for several weeks and then nothing for the last three weeks - so who knows?)

am hoping your ds will be ok

with mitts he just goes frantic rubbing - the skin still gets damaged - he is sitting on my lap rubbing his bottom against me now! he will do anything to try to scratch bless him
poor little loves
we are very lucky it doesn't make him too miserable, he is mostly an easy going little soul
sorry to hear your dh suffers with it - i knew nothing about eczema till this year! now quite a lot!

Glad your DS seems to be outgrowing it and keep me posted on the ECing. I love to hear how other people do it
