I started potty training DD@ a few weeks ago and within 3 days she was dry and has had only a few peeing accidents since. However she is not clean. At all. She poos in her pants, and if i don't get enough fluid or fruit into her she starts holding in her poo. I had this problem with DD1 except worse and it went on for 2 years before I got any useful help from the doctors, and it is now getting better. But how do you encourage a child how pees in the potty or toilet with no problem and who asks to go to the toilet, to then do the same with poos?

I'm no use to you at all because I think the problem is that you have started far too soon and you should go back to nappies until she's older. Someone else will be along soon!

I disagree. Because she has been asking to use the toilet and telling me when she needs since she was 18 mos. But I held off cos I thought before 2 was too early. She is dry and hates wearing a pull-up, it's just trying to crack the pooing that seems to be the problem. I know I tried too soon with DD1 as she got more and more stressed about using the potty so I went back to nappies with her until she was 3+. But DD2 is different. Anyway, sorry to disagree when I'm asking for help.

ihad this with ds1. My health visitor assured me it is completely normal for some children and not to push the issue. Ds1 would only poo in his pants and we also had poo witholding issues. On the health visitors advice I left it but would try small encouragements when ds1 said he needed a poo like 2do you want to try and do it on your potty?" and when I was cleaning him up I would say that really poo should go straight in the toilet, but nothing to make him feel I was cross about him doing it in his pants.

It did take a year but he now poos on the potty and he started doing it all by himself.

ATM I would just go with what your dd is happy with she hasn't been trained for that long.

That is what I have been doing so it's reassuring that it does work, eventually ;). Sometimes I have to stop myself from forcing her on to the potty to do a poo but doesn't work anyway. Thank you. It's always reassuring to know someone else has been there.
