Early years foundation degree

I am thinking of doing the early years foundation degree.

Has anyone done this qualification and can tell me whether the workload is possible with dc's of 3.5 and 1 year old.

Thanks

i did the early years pgce and it was brill.
v different from the degree though so not sure.

however, i will say that schools are very keen on hiring people with early years qualifications (well round here anyway!).

DA- I already have a degree, so I can do a pgce.

What was the workload like? I have heard it is very intensive.

yes it is. working a full day at school when you are on the placements, then returning home to work all evening on essays/write ups/evidence folders.

however, it is short so maybe sustainable. depends on the childcare situation.

personally, i'd rather work really hard for a shorter period of time!

also it really varies.
i had loads more work to do than dh who trained the same year as me in a different college.

he did a scitt (school centered initial teacher training). longer placements, less focus on essays/folder maintaining i think.

this might be preferable...

I'm thinking I should wait to do the course until at least one of my dc's are at school.

Do you need to have experience in schools to be able to get onto a course?

yes you do.

iirc it was 2 weeks voluntary work in a class (nursery-yr2). if you have other experience in schools this can help.

for mine there was a preliminary assessment on the voluntary placement.

waiting until 1 is in school might help but only you can judge that!
