anyone ever tried this?

I posted under behaviour about problems I'm having with my 8yo dd and am realising that I am at least partly responsible for her difficult behaviour. She's having lots of trouble controlling her temper. This is also something I have struggled with so I guess she's learning from me.

Her behaviour also gets much worse when she feels like she has no control over what's going on. So here's what I'm thinking. I'm going to buy a bunch of small cards with different pictures or colours to represent different behaviours - maybe good/listening/helping, arguing/not listening, losing temper/shouting. I can use these to help her recognise her behaviour in the mornings without getting caught up in an argument of words. But here's the clever bit - I give her a set as well to give to me.

Anyone tried anything like this? What do you think?

Haven't tried what you suggest, but it sounds like a great idea. I remember reading that often children have difficulty recognising emotions they are feeling and that it is helpful to point it out to them - I think the book was 'How to talk so that kids will listen'.

Def worth a try.

well my dd loves the idea. she couldn't wait to write cards for me! will let you know how it goes.
