just leave it and try again in 6 months

rubyslippers · 25/03/2009 08:16

she is too young

my DS is 3 in June (dry and clean in the day and has been for a while)

i think night dryness depends on hormone levels so it can take much longer (if you search the archives there are quite a few threads on this)

i would leave her in nappies and when she has a run of dry nappies in the mornings you can go for it

Too young. Don't restrict fluids in the evening, if she needs to drink, then she should drink, and it's unhealthy to stop her.

Wait unril she has a run of dry nappies.

I agree not to restrict drinks and that it is out of the childs control

all children are different

She is not necessarily too young (DD1 was dry at night at 2.6 about 3 months after I potty trained her). I'm not sure there is much you can do to 'train' her though, they are ready when they are ready. DD1 never had a dry nappy in the morning, so I don't think you necessarily need to wait for that. She used to wee when she was half asleep first thing in the morning, but once I stopped putting the nappy on she was fine and would get up to wee instead of using the nappy.

I wouldn't restrict fluids - but only offer water from the afternoon onwards(not juice or squash etc) and no harm in giving a bit less milk.

Always make sure she wees before bed (I used to say to DD1 come on now do a wee then we can have a story - she always managed to squeeze something out!)

I would try without a nappy for 3 nights in a row. Make up the bed twice for easy changes (i.e. mattress protector at the base then sheet, then a disposable bed mat (e.g. pampers do them) then another sheet, you can just strip off the top sheet and bed mat if she has an accident. Leave the potty in her room - nightdress and no knickers for ease. If she has no success then go back to nappies and try again for 3 nights in a row a couple of months later.

I agree she is not neccessarily too young as Gecko is dry at night now at 2.1

but it isn't something that you can train them to do

Leave it for now. It'll happen when it happens.

Dd was dry in the day just before her 2nd birthday. She was 5 before she was dry at night.

And I didn't wait until her nappies were dry in the morning either. Someone on here said it wasn't necessarily an indicator that they were ready to go without, so I gave her a go without nappies. Complete disaster.

However, I tried again a few months later and this time bingo! Dry from the first night we tried. I didn't restrict drinks, lift her or anything. She was just ready.
