i can only find the rubber socks from a size far too large for him. would maybe fit a 7yo...

i am open to potential other ideas... i saw on a link to an american watersports site that did neoprene socks for watersports... something like that would work. or proper tight fitting aqua-shoes... but again, am having a 'mare trying to find them small enough.

thought to myself; someone on mn will know where to find them!

so... any ideas?

tia

Ask in your local pharmacy. They usually have them.

Are you sure she needs something? Our local pool weren't bothered about feet being covered

Why don't you get a waterproof verucca treatment?. Once you've applied it, it'll start sorting out the verucca and stop cross infection. Bazukka is one

If you are treating it with bazucca stuff it doesn't need to be covered.

info on bazuka here

I thought the wisdom now is that you don't do anything special with veruccas. The rubber socks don't do any good at all. They don't prevent anyone from getting veruccas.

Treating veruccas with anti-virals and other chemicals is also ineffective. The point is that your body needs to make antibodies against the HPV, so getting rid of it externally can make this process less effective and more likely that veruccas will return in the future.

ingles2 · 24/03/2009 19:18

I'm not sure that's true ST. My 9 yr old had a verucca for months that I didn't know about. When I eventually saw it, it was ENORMOUS and he's had to have it removed by the chiropodist. Not pleasant

Ratface · 24/03/2009 19:18

it is covered in that stuff, yes. i forgot about that meaning its sealed.

there are actually two; one on the end of little toe on one foot, which looks huge and black and manky and hopefully like its gonna fall out soon (bleurgh)
andf one on the bottom of the other foot, under the ball of his foot. which also looked like it was on the run... but recently looks more like its settling back in for the long run again.

the toe one is no issue really - but the other one hurts him as he walks on it, obv, and needs to be gotten rid of asap. the white stuff just aint doing it.

but yes, i guess in the meantime as long as he is painted up hes not spreading them around. thanks.

ive been pretty chilled about them on that basis st, but as i say, the one on the bottom of the foot is causing him pain, so ive declared war on it.

That's the point, Ingles. They happily go swimming every week with veruccas that you don't even know about. If you were to swab the changing rooms in a swimming pool, they would be swarming with HPV.

Most veruccas last around 2 years, but are probably over 6 months old by the time there are clinical signs. They tend to be painful for just a few weeks. If you meddle with them, they can spread.

A patch of duct tape! It stays on, and is a recommended verrucca treatment.(When I first discovered this as Docs where I work recommend it, pt it on here and found it was old news. Cleared my everlasting friends off my foot!)

Ratface · 24/03/2009 19:52

ah, duct tape it is then.

have also been told to rub banana skin on it.

yes st, the last bit makes sense as the sore one looked like it was coming out and i, erm, might have kind of attempted to rub it out/off with a towel one night. it didnt all come out and i stopped coz he was screaming a fair bit.
and now it looks like it did weeks and weeks ago; like a perfectly healthy and long term verruca.
doh.

but we hadn't meddled with it! He didn't know it was there either and it was the size of a large 5 pence piece. He'd had no pain, no itching and obviously hadn't washed his feet in the shower.

Ratface · 25/03/2009 20:32

progress;
the black lump on the end of the little toe fell out today. have filled the resulting hole with more of the salatac gel stuff just in case theres more virusy stuff lurking there.

he wont let me put the stuff on the under-the-foot one; barely even lets me look at it! but im chilled about it now (thanks)

still an all, just in case anyone is reading this thread in the future and looking for something like i was, ive just found the very thing while looking for something else. here they are
